License plate LEDs came out blue
 

So i bought some license plate lights, I don't remember where from, but I payed like 13 bucks for both and figured it would be an easy mod to get the lights to be white rather than yellow, but they ended up being kinda blue and they weren't advertised as such. At the moment these are the best pictures i can pull up of them:

They're about as bright as the stock bulbs, and I like that brightness level. I would just pony up and buy the whole 30 dollar replacement housing but I'm afraid they'll be far brighter than the stock bulbs. Should I just try buying different LEDs? Cause I really don't understand why these came out so blue. Is it due to the housing?

Learn a bit about color temperature. You have 'cool white' bulbs. The stocks are more like 'warm white' bulbs. You probably want 'pure white' or just 'white' bulbs.

Anything above 6000K is cool white. Under 4000K is typically warm white.

i was on the hunt for a while to try and find 'pure white' led's but everything seemed to fall under either too blue a hue, or look just like stock with 'warm white.'

i got some polarg 'hyper white' 194's which were the perfect hue, but they burned out after about 2 months of use... that may have been because i just plugged the damn bulbs in without gloves and the 'oils' from my fingers affected them? not sure, but i just gave up and put the stock ones back in. not worth spending any more money on imo

LED's don't get hot like other bulbs. Yes they do get warm, but they sure as hell will not burn you. Oils from your hand won't really matter. Things start to change once you get in the higher power levels, then things change a little, but not for these little SMD component LED's. A bad quality LED bulb/schematic/design will cascade and burn out all of the emitters.

Check out SuperbtightLEDs. They typically don't sell junk. Yes they may all look the, but they are surely not.

It looks like the best they offer on suberbrightlights is cool white again. 7100k. I can't seem to find any pure whites anywhere, maybe I just don't know where to look

What are you running on your car? Are they pure white?

the polargs i bought weren't LEDs-- they were filament bulbs...

couldn't find LEDs that were close enough to being clear white w/o blue. I ran LED bulbs for my plates on my past 3 cars and was never completely happy w/ the color. I DID really like the color from the polargs (closest thing i can compare w/ is the color of the plate bulbs that lexus uses), but those burned out pretty quickly.

i've used leds from superbrightleds before-- good quality, but again, not quite the color i want for license plate bulbs. everything i've seen in LEDs has a tinge of blue to it...

The ijdmtoy replacement housing seems like a pretty solid bet, seems like they're pure white, they're just super bright and I don't know that I want to commit to that either. http://store.ijdmtoy.com/Scion-FR-S-...s-p/75-016.htm I'm not sure what other options I have

Now I remember, the 194 (T10) is impossible (as far as I know) to find in pure white.

I personally like cool white. Only my side markers are on the pure-warm side. They are retrofitsource T10 bulbs and are way brighter than the starndard 5 chi bulbs, but they would be waaaay to bright for the license plate lights. It would take all of ten minutes to swap the 5050 chips from cool to pure.

I'm thinking I'm just gonna go with the full housing replacement. Hopefully it isn't obnoxiously bright

Led bulbs are marketed as "Warm White" and "Cool White" but the "Natural White" is less commonly found. These bulbs run 4000-4500K, and they look "pure white" as do the OEM LED's used in BMW/Lexus.
