The Twins are in Good Company
A lot of people have their past cars in their sig and it got me thinking. I see a lot of people coming from Porsche, Lotus, BMW M cars; legit track day monsters. It got me thinking about it. I think it's the driving feel, not so much the power or the handling, but the feeling you get during spirited driving. And now you can get it for a fraction of the price. Crazy to think that guys have abandoned the $60k+ cars for some $25k Scions.
What did you drive before you got your Twin? |
A 2006 Hyundai Elantra! Baller! :D It even had power steering!
Before that it was a GM6 2.5RS and a bugeye WRX. |
03 Chevy tracker LOL still in the swamp where I left it

02 Civic SI. Was going to invest into a K24a2 all N/A swap but the 86 won my heart after a test drive at the dealer... Thanks a lot Tada, you ruined my project...

2005 M3 .was plan get a 370Z but after driving the BRZ, love the feel of it so much.

I think we've had threads like this before, but past cars for me:
2009 Porsche Boxster S 2005 Nissan 350z 35th Anniversary 2009 Subaru STI hatch All were great in their own way. Before that, I also had an RSX, Integra, etc. which were also fun cars. |
I had a 04 Accord, nothing fancy but it got me where I needed to go.
I looked at Mustangs and Genesis Coupes, however I enjoyed doing the FRS the most. |
04 M3. Repair costs, little things falling off that you shouldn't have to worry about like the cloth liner on the front pillars, horrible radio reception. The list goes on.
The M3 was a joy to drive when you could rip it open and experience what the car was about, but that is very rare in LA. It wasn't much fun to cruise around in traffic. I still love looking at E46 M3s when they drive by, but don't miss the hassle of ownership at all. |
Coming from a 93 300zx vert that I now get to turn into the project car.

2002 Mazda Miata LS. The saleman kept trying to make sure I knew how small the brz was.

All previous vehicles in order:
- 1966 Mustang Coupe 289cu - Fully restored by my father and I, neat first car, but if you've driven a newer car you realize how antiquated everything on it is. - 1999 Ford ZX2 - Decent gas mileage... - 1966 Mustang Fastback GT 289cu - Fully restored by my father and I. Still have this one, a garage queen. Verified to be a real "A" code GT, rather rare nowadays. - 1998 Trans Am 5.7L - Awesome powertrain, crappy interior quality (leather made from rat skin IMO). - 2004 Regular Cab Ram Hemi - Really liked the looks (all black), performance didn't live up to the hype. - 2007 Wrangler Unlimited Sahara - Nice vehicle, but I just didn't take advantage of the features (hadn't even had the top down since 2008). - 1992 Mitsubishi Mighty Max - Still have it. Used for hauling mulch, lumber, when expecting damaging weather, or as a sauna in the summer (no AC). - 2014 Scion FR-S - Haven't had it a full week yet. Really like it so far, handles like it on a rail, great gas mileage for my longer commute, very fun car. |
2004 VW GLI stage 3+ and a 2005 Acura RSX with suspension mods. I've owned nothing but sporty cars but the "feel" like you mentioned is unrivaled in the FR-S. The RSX was close though.
