Removing reverse lockout pin without a hammer...
Not wanting to bash on my shifter with a hammer, I found a better way to remove the reverse lockout pin.
Just use a 3/32" punch along with a carpenter's bar clamp. Lay a blanket around your console area to protect it and use the clamp to squeeze the punch against the reverse lockout pin. The pin slides out on the first try and there's no drama whatsoever. You will need to offset the clamp just a tad so you aren't pushing the pin into the opposite side's clamp face. http://www.irwin.com/uploads/product...readers-67.jpg |
Just installed my Raceseng reverse lockout. I used the "Irwin 6-in Next Gen Bar Clamp" from Lowes. I really couldn't get the pin moving by offsetting the clamp...maybe I wasn't doing it right or maybe the clamp I bought wasn't heavy duty enough. I ended up just holding the clamp straight and pushing the pin out into the rubber clamp face. Once it got started it was easy to tap out the rest of the way with a hammer. Perhaps not as elegant as boomslang described, but it worked fine and made it much easier than using only a hammer.
Oh, the Craftsman punch I purchased also bent really easily...back to Sears it goes. |

You wouldn't happen to be a part of boomslang fabrication would you? |
Have a problem here, I have the red raceseng lockout installed and I'm trying to swap in out to the gubmetal color I just received. However there aren't two holes for the pin like on the stock lockout, so there is no way for me to hammer out the pin to remove the lockout. Does anyone know another way of removing it?

is this just a cosmetic upgrade?

$80 is an impressive amount of coin for a small piece of milled aluminum that provides little to no advantage over the original part. I'm not knocking anyone who appreciates it for what it is. I guess I'm just surprised they can ask that kind of money for it. |

Eliminating the lockout I can imagine myself accidentally reversing instead of going forward, James May style. Haha. |
I have a friend who shoved a Mini Cooper into reverse during an autocross event. Apparently, it resulted in smoke and a nasty sound. I think lockouts are good. I'm keeping mine.

used a hammer. you don't have to crush it. a light tap does the job.
