Fr-s or 370z?

Been lurking on the forums for a while now :).

Now that I'm about to purchase a vehicle namely: the 2014 monogram Fr-s or Nissan 370z. I'm torn between the two as they are both around 30k. I'll be using them as my DD, so I won't be heavily modifying either of them in anyway. So which one would you guys prefer?

Also, do you think insurance rates will differ between the two drastically?

Thanks!

Goes on an FR-S forum, asks if people prefer the FR-S.

Why I also asked a 370z forum as well. It'll be interesting on what people say.

Have you driven either? A test drive would likely make a decision very easy.

Also, you had better prepare to buy a set of winter tires, living in the snow belt. Neither car comes with suitable tires for winter, and you might get hanged for putting all-seasons on a sports car. Just sayin'.

What are you looking for in a car?

Can you please expand on why?

I have driven my friends fr-s so i was able to redline it, I will be going to a Nissan dealer sometime soon to try the 370z.

As for tires; I am probably getting winter tires.

I'm just looking for something that is easy to maintain,fun to drive 40-60miles a day and look nice. Also, the occasional race with some buddies.

Which one is smarter for you to get financially?

I chose the FRS because of this. I was on the fence with these two cars also. I love 370zs I wanted a black one

Difficult decision based off of your simple needs/wants, which is perfectly fine however, in your situation you may have a more fun time in the 370z. There are some questions to consider:

- Do you think you will be modifying your car a lot i.e. aesthetics, power, handling?
- Do you only plan on modifying one of the three, two of the three, all three?
- Which look do you prefer more so between the two?
- Have you test driven both? What did you experience?

In terms of torque, which I like to look at vs. horsepower, these are the stats:

FRS = 151 lb.-ft @ 6,600 RPM
370z = 270 ft-lbs. @ 5200 rpm

Also the FRS comes with 17x7 in. wheels while the 370z comes with 18 x 9.0 in. wheels. So you get some great width with the Z right off the bat.

the 370Z is the better grand touring DD driver. But if you want to drive on back roads or a track, FR-S is the better chassis that can have power added later.

EAGLE5 07-18-2014 03:46 AM

Just depends what you want. I would not look at a Z since there are so many better two-seaters. A used C6 Vette would be a lot more fun. A Boxster or Cayman would be awesome. If you don't care about rear seats, there are just so many awesome choices. The Z is just meh in comparison. A BMZ Z4, either generation, will be a blast. Miatas too, and for 30k, you can get a nice used one. If you're stuck on going Japanese, you can also get an S2000. If weight isn't a major concern, swing a Camaro 1LE. There are so many amazing cars that outshine the Z.

Wow...that video really cements in my mind that I made the right choice :)
