FT86 on the backburner according to this month's EVO

Just saw this in EVO:

'....Our insider at Toyota, however, tells us that while this project has not been fully canned (talking about hybrid Supra replacement), it has been put on the backburner.
Same goes for the 'new rear drive Corolla', the Toyota FT-86, and its Subaru twin brother, now postponed until 2013 due to the 'tough economic times'.

Interestingly they mentioned talk of a 1.5 litre hatch which is RWD and with 108bhp and <1000kgs, which could be out in 2012.

Lauren...you've been on the back burner!

haven't seen you here forever.

LOL! I have been busy erm, looking at FD2's and the like, just wondering if this car will appear!

To be fair, though, all we can do at the moment is speculate, guess it would be good if Toyota got things moving along.

Don't go with the FD2's, I was infatuated with them like YEARS ago...and they never really stood out. Probably because it is not RWD.

I would wait for the Next Generation "rx7", Mazda Miata, "supra", and "mr2" coming up.

:sigh:

I've had a DC2 before. Best handling car I've ever owned by a country mile if I'm honest. FD2 seems to be the progression of that. The FD2 has only been out since 2007. I need a four seater so that rules out all the two seaters around. Supra= barge IMO. ;)

well this is discouraging news

vh_supra26 08-14-2010 11:08 AM

Didn't Toyota just said the car was on track for Nov 2011?

Agreed, don't really know how reliable the source is.

people are taking it with a grain of salt because some of the stuff in that article are not what we've read elsewhere :iono:

Don't believe it. We'll probably be seeing a final production model later this year in whichever car show they decide is best.

Was it Toyota that said that officially it was a go for '11? The only thing I remember about that is the guy from the Blog saying some Toyota guy at a G-Sport presentation in Japan said it was still go. And didn't sound too official.

Yep I saw that. Who knows really. Was just reading EVO and saw that, so thought I'd post it up. No idea how reliable it is and 2011 sounds better than 2013 to me!
