Good place to sell a FR-S?

Hello Guys -

Long time lurker here from bay area. I am looking to sell my FR-S but since I am somewhat new to the area, I'm not entirely sure how/where would be best to put this up. Some people have suggested Craigslist but I'm not sure I want to test drive with potential rapists :)

I tried some wholesalers like CarMax but since my car is Canadian (as I am), the odometer shows KMs and that's apparently the end of the world for them. The speedometer shows miles/h while driving but the ODO does not.

I think my FR-S is pretty spiffy, its an asphalt with the five axis spoiler kit, nicer enekei wheels, tinted windows and HID lights. I've got around 15K miles on it. Anyone can advise where I could put this up so my baby finds a loving family?

Thanks guys, appreciate all the help.

Is it registered in california already? If not, that will be a lot tougher for most people who aren't familiar on how to transfer a canadian vehicle.

Yes, it is properly registered and imported. I have the California title. While DMV didnt require the ODO to be converted to miles, some vendors bitch at that..

They bitch because it'll be tough for them to sell that to a consumer or so they think.

Is it listed in the classified section? That'd be my first step if I wanted to sell mine, I'd gamble there are a handful of lurkers who are looking to buy used browsing the classifieds.

Probably less spam than listing on craigslist too.

Oh that's a good idea. I had not seen the "car" section in classifieds here. If I can avoid craigslist, I would be very glad :) I looked eBay motors too but I'm not sure that works really well.

works fine but you will more than likely not get anywhere close to whats its worth on there

Stick it on Craiglist, you'll be fine. Yes there are crazies out there, but you can filter them out pretty easily. I've sold and bought nearly two dozen cars on CL over the past 10 years.

If safety is an issue, just meet at a Starbucks and bring a friend with you.

As far as selling... take A LOT of photos. Pretty much the car and interior at every angle and talk about every ding and dent too. You'll pretty much have the car sold with good photos and explanations.

As far as the OD, just be up front about it. Obviously set the speedo to miles (and mention it) and of course, mention it's already registered in CA and smog OK.

For payment, I suggest meeting them at their bank and literally letting the bank person sign it in front of you OR do an electronic transfer. DO NOT EVER take a personal or cashiers check.

Best wishes on your sale!
