Anyone ever done this to their car or heard of it?

Quite a few have - sadly I'm not one of them and my car has some serious roadrash. A good investment in hindsight.

I have it on my car. It's brilliant for small rocks and dirt , aka day-to-day things. You can see it on the car but just barely. Would recommend it to anyone:thumbup:

Thanks guys, I have seen people use Plasti Dip for the same thing. It is less permanent but will be a lot cheaper.

I really cringe thinking about the adhesive going onto the paint job :iono:.

I think it was around R7k. No need to cringe, it's been around for many years. Best job so far for me was VPS Ednvale. They wrap around the panel edges so it looks muchess visible.

Is this what the Americans call Opticoat?
I'm sad that I never did something like that because I'm accumulating a lot of nicks and chips up front :(
@sav - must say that yours is quite inconspicuous. I've seen your car many times and I've never noticed it. :)

I didn't have the VPS on my car I had the Lumar competitor put on (As far as I remember) the cost was about 7K. I have been extremely happy with it. I don't know much about plasti-dip but I can tell you it's going to be a lot less resilient when compared to the VPS. If you have a chance to run by one of the VPS installers get a look at the sheet they use. It's really thick. I understand you not wanting to adhere straight to the paint but IMHO I would rather have that then plasti-dip. I don't know how long they recommend before having the VPS replaced but it's probably about 4-5 years (I speak under correction), and to me after owning the car for that long a period of time, it has more then paid back for itself, even if it does mean repainting the bumper when they reapply it. If you do go with the plasti-dip please keep me updated I am interested to see how durable it is in that setting

That's good to know. :D I've had VPS done before but Edenvale is just exceptionally good.

There is a VPS shop here in Centurion, Ill find out from them what they will charge when I get a chance.

Plasti Dip for sure wont be as strong but it does look like it comes off easy with no residue.

Is your whole car covered in it or just the front?

-Full bonnet
-Full bumper
-Full fenders
-Mirrors
-Small piece on top of the rear bumper
-Headlights
-Fog lights (replaced fog lights since and wrapped myself)

I would really not trust any other shop to do it though. I've looked at other cars and it's obvious they don't have the same skill or experience as the Edenvale branch. You have to look at 2 cars side to side to see what I mean.

I'm surprised by that I gotta say. That came off more easily than I expected after a year. I think you have probably seen this thread but it is another option (the level of inconvenience of reapplying every 12 months is up to you :P)
