Do any aftermarket radio/nav systems offer gauges ?
Given we have the screen it would be great if the head unit offered the ability to read the engine parameters like the scan gauge . Has anyone developed
An aftermarket head unit that does this? |
I think some Kenwood Excelon head units do this, but only their top of the line model (~ $1400 on amazon + price of OBD adaptor).
edit: Actually I can only find info that last years top of the line had it (DNX9980HD). Apparently it isn't that cool. |
pretty sure some of the pioneer double dins have this option.
If I were you Id pick up a cheap 7 inch android tablet and get a bluetooth adaptor and call it a day ill post pics of myself up in my IS300 to give you an idea |

something like this would set you back 300 (Galaxy tab bluetooth adapter and car mount) |
^ wow I would love to have my HTC Flyer set up on the FRS... we could have it connected to OBDII with bluetooth & then run gauges + music + navigation.
Where would mounting be best though... hm. |
Theres an awesome app for android called torque which when paired with an OBDII adapter offers all of the on-board info you could want. Theres another one which is even better, forgot the name but costs 40$ but well worth it. Only issue is you need your phone or tablet on display to view ut- which is a huge bummer compared to the GTR style system which is now years old...its a shame that couldnt be integrated along with NAV... instead its more social media bull shit? In a driver's car? Really?
Scion designed that system for kids... well thats what scion is for...why didnt we get the Toyota! Hah. Theres my rant.... |
the Pioneer AppRadio 2 is compatible with the DashCommand app but the headunit is like 600 dollars plus you have to buy a 200 dollar OBD2Link... expensive for sure, but super cool

There are also companies that make oBDII digital gauge systems that will work with any head unit screen that has a standard video input.
