Cheap tires as good/bad as oem
 

Has anybody found a cheap tire that equals the performance of the wonderfully inadequate oem michelins? I love the way the stockers feel, but I would like to save some coin.

You might be able to find someone selling stock tires (Bridgestone/Michelin) with decent thread for low price.

I bought Yokohama C drives to replace my stockers. More grip for less money. The only downside is the sidewalls seem softer.

I was looking at GT Radial UHP1 Or Kumho Ecsta AST personally.

I find on MINIs that Continental tires are woefully inadequate in terms of grip. It's a lot of fun. And my grandpa hates them, so that's a plus.

They're also ludicrously soft, so they aren't that much different than our Michelins.

I believe those tires are the Continental ContiProContact tires. I hate those tires as well. They're loud, they don't hold air well, the sidewalls are extremely prone to bubble, and they do not get their rated tread life.

Their CS is poor as they will tell you YMMV on the tread life.

I had them on my Nissan Altima, they were stock tires and terrible ones.

I always see mercedes with continental tires with bubbles wtf

I have Continental DWS on my car no bubbles over about 20k miles so far, cross fingers

I believe those are stock tires for most german cars...lol

haha I believe you heard sarcasm instead of sincerity: I like those tires. Can't speak as to tire life, but bubbles are rare on continentals, they usually show up on bridge stones at my work. As for road noise, MINIs are terrible about that but the continentals are inaudible. Of course, that's usually in 175/65R15 haha

There's a difference between ContiProContact and ContiProContact SSR. SSR means run flat, which is a worse tire in every way. And conti make them so soft they won't run flat!

My Altima had Tiger Paws. Now THAT is a bad tire.

I had a Golf TDI that came with ContiProContact, the sidewall bubbled on one of them.

I was literally thinking about this on my way to work this morning... It's kind of hard to search for, lol.

I have another set for autoX/etc but for my dd I like the slide factor of the A/S bridgestones. When it comes time to replace, I MAY look for a used set on CL or something, but i'd prefer to buy a new set of something equally crappy but has the good mileage/hooning ability for less than the absurd OEM price of those crap tires I have. I'd be so sad if I lost my fun on the street, squirting around at 20 mph sideways whenever I want to!
