What does this do? Is it supposed to hold the door, more firmly in place while driving?

In the event of prolonged stiffness lasting longer than 4 hours, seek immediate medical assistance.

They're supposed to stiffen the chassis by taking slack out of the door when it's closed. What it really does is lighten your wallet.

Do you have a link to the information showing they don't perform as advertised?

It adds serious JDM kudos points to your hard parking score. The stiffening is so SRS that Toyota filed a patent! A patent I'd like to read but cannot find.

lmao, they are getting reasonable. $115 plus $25 shipping on https://www.japanparts.com/parts/detail/40799

There are some videos on another thread that show less door flex under hard cornering,
