HELP: O2 bung on Rev Works header stripped?
 

Hey guys,

I asked a question about the O2 sensors being the same size a few minutes ago, but I believe they are.

Yesterday I purchased a used Rev Works header. Everything looks good, but I noticed today that one of the O2 sensor bungs looked a little off. I was given an O2 spacer to remedy any potential CELs and tried to hand screw it in, but only the first couple threads would go in and then stop. Meanwhile, when I tired the same spacer on the other bung (near the Rev Works logo) it screwed in with almost no effort.

What do you guys suggest? Is there any easy fix for this?

I assume the O2 sensor will screw all the way down using quite a few threads, not just 2-3 threads, right?

I had to use this tool on my motorcycle header...the headers are chromed..but they chromed the threads as well..I screwed the O2 sensor in and tightened it with a torque wrench...thought I was good...had a god awful time figuring why the bike ran like crap...just by sheer luck I noticed the O2 sensor was not threaded completely tight with the bung even though I had reached the correct torque figure...chrome flash was stopping it from doing so.

I think it is wise to run this tool thru any bung when ever you install a sensor...

I should have it on Tuesday. I will report back my results then. Hopefully this will straighten out the threads enough to allow the O2 sensor to be fully screwed in.

Well I am happy to report that the thread chaser did the trick. It took about 4 attempts to and some WD40 to get it to go all the way though, but I can now screw in the spacer by hand.

Does anyone know what the thread size is for the O2 sensor bungs ? Need to get me one of those chasers :| Cheers

Any autoparts store will have one specifically for the O2 sensor. It's a common issue when people don't use antisieze.


If you take an O2 sensor out and put it into a new header USE ANTISEIZE!


Had to deal with this crap on a Miata. Having to remove the entire exhaust so I can use a torch on the connection to get it hot enough to release was not my idea of fun. Easy 30 minute job took me all damn day because the previous owner reused the O2 sensors without applying more antisieze.

Cheers bud, thanks for the tip - we'll do. I've had my ofh ceramic coated so I just wanna make sure it's good to go before I fit those sensors on properly with no leaks ;)
