Racer X Fabrication heat shield, help us to help you
 
Over the last few weeks we have released a couple of new products, but for this one we are looking for some community feedback and what you guys would like to see for the heatshield. We have the bolting locations determined but we would really like to make sure this fits with the array of intakes and forced induction kits.

Currently we are thinking of making them out of brushed 304 stainless steel. Here are a few pics and let me know if there are any apparent clearance issues with specific intakes or turbo/supercharger kits

I'd imagine helping with keeping the heat of the engine block from heating up the radiator, helping with heatsoak.

This sums it up pretty well, for the NA guys this should help with isolating engine bay temps toward the air intake. For the forced induction guys it will reduce the temps from the turbo to all the accessories in the engine bay.

It will keep heat from most FI and possibly face hugger headers away from the various components on the front of the engine.

It seems it won't work with most sc kits, but I doubt that's the target audience. Also it wouldn't shield an intake from heat from a header, which has me wondering if an add on option would be beneficial. Pretty well all of the turbo kits would stand to benefit from this as it is though.

I'm not sure why the hole for what looks like the crank pulley was required though?

the hole near the bottom? 'the hell...doesnt do a shield much good when theyre is holes in it :lol:

Im honestly surprised it took this long to come up with such a simple design. :bonk: although im not sure how many times 304 SS will hold up to repeated heating without warping.

Maybe offer a base shield, then one with thermal coating, maybe one thats covered in the stuff that turbo blankets are made of...maybe a titanium model :)

How about a simple flat sheet of carbon fiber? Should insulate better than steel I think.

The crank pulley bolt sticks out the most, the hole is for clearance.

We are aiming to keep the cost down as usual, but stainless steel sheet is considerably more expensive than aluminum or steel.

We modified the area of the opening at the center of the heat shield to provide extra clearance for different intake routings. Here is the shield with the OEM intake, and the larger opening.

Would there be a way to get actual differences in temps with and without this shield.

If it make a significant difference i am on the list to purchase, would love it in black for sure!
