Any Magic The Gathering players here?
I used to play hardcore back in middle school and high school and have thousands of cards from 4th edition through 7th edition (most cards from Tempest/Stronghold/Exodus, Urza's series, a short break, then lots from Planeshift and Invasion). Long story short, I loved playing and had several good decks. My deck box was stolen and while I recovered most of my cards, I never rebuilt my decks and was too demoralized to really continue as hardcore as I was.
Flash forward 14 years or so, and a friend recently invited me to a Draft Tournament night at his place. No deck construction is required ahead of time, so I could just show up and play. Apparently it works by getting 3 booster packs per person, each person opens one pack, takes one card, and passes the rest to the next person. They then pick a card and pass it on again, and so on until each pack of each round has been distributed. Then we built 40-card decks to play a big 6-person free for all. Lots of fun. It inspired me to make a detour on the way home and grab my box of MTG cards from my mom's house and both rebuild my favorite old deck and separate/expand my draft deck into two slightly more specialized decks. I ended up spending the next few days updating and expanding each deck and have been playing pretty regularly with my friends. This is my favorite deck so far, and it was the one based on the original deck from high school: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/discard-burn-counter/ Any other players here? |
I played a lot over the years but stopped buying my own cards after Ice Age because moneysink. Now I mostly just play the Duels series via steam to get my fix.

In middle school 13 years ago lol

I played for a while in college. Never really got that into it cause the people I played with were super good and I never won lol. My professor would do drafts every week, this guy seriously has like every super rare card you could ever want.

I sold the power 10 (p9+ library of alexandria) for like 900 back in the late 90s.
I used that money to build a computer. Whos a dipshit This guy |
I use to play years ago. I played online for a bit after high school when I was bored.

I don't play anymore, but I have all my cards. I just can't get rid of them. I would give them to a kid that would use them, but I can't just throw them out.
Is that one card 'Black Lotus' still worth a lot of money? |
I was pretty into it, during 6th edition - Urza. Occasionally, I'll jump on MTGO to test out fun combo ideas (Modern) or giant creature decks (Standard).
I'm a complete Timmy (ramp or combo to absurd finishes, with no concern for win percentage). I've really enjoyed the content on Channel Fireball lately, since I can't find time to play. @Shagaliscious - Yes it's still worth alot of money. $100-200 online. Most of the chase rares are in the $5-10 range online. |
Sold all my cards years ago and now just top 8 prereleases to sell cards + prizes for profit. Used to have a powered cube, which was what got me to quit constructed. Still play on mws every couple weeks to help friends test their new standard decks before they buy the cards, but never buy any myself.

Started playing decades ago during Revised. Played through 4th edition, Ice Age, some of the expansions, and then quit shortly after 5th came out. I tried to get back into it a few years after that but they'd added several mechanics so I realized I'd have to rebuild all of my decks.
Somewhere around here I have a bunch of cards that, at one point, were worth a decent amount of money. Best deck was an all red DD deck centering around a gauntlet of might. I beat several other decks with hundreds or thousands of dollars worth of cards with that beast. |
oh my god
i used to play a lot, started when unlimited/revised came out(somewhere around that time, i remember buying a lot of revised packs and such) i never had a job in highschool or middleschool, we ran magic tourny's and thats how i made money lol, worked for me. anyway, love playing, dont really have any cards anymore(maybe a small box laying around somewhere) but I do play a couple of the games on steam, think i have magic 2013 and 2014, i'd have to check! |
god damn i used to love my stasis deck.....oh the fun :)
