Snow tires?
 

Interesting comment in the BRZ owners manual( I expect the FRS is the same) about snow tires?

■Driving with snow tires
Observe the following precautions to reduce the risk of accidents.
Failure to do so may result in a loss of vehicle control and cause death or
serious injury.
●Use tires of the specified size, and that are the same size, same maker,
same brand and tread pattern.
●Maintain the recommended level of air pressure.
●Do not drive in excess of 30 mph (50 km/h), regardless of the type of snow
tires being used.
●Use snow tires on all, not just some wheels.

and

Low profile tires (vehicles with 17-inch tires)
Generally, low profile tires will wear more rapidly and tire grip performance
will be reduced on snowy and/or icy roads when compared to
standard tires. Be sure to use snow tires or tire chains on snowy and/or
icy roads and drive carefully at a speed appropriate for road and weather
conditions.

WTF?!? Wanna bet that's the paperwork/manual screw-up that's holding the cars release? Makes absolutely no sense since I drive with snows on all my cars, and never have had any issues running at highway speeds (80km/h on up).

LOL, what a bunch of BS! I fully intend to drive this poor little car through the winter, and will be buying a set of Bridgestone Blizzak WS70 tires. The tire size will be determined by the smallest wheel size that will clear the brakes on the car.

Yeah that will go over real well with me driving 50kph to work in a 100kph zone. I'll have to put the flashers on and have a sign "How do you like my driving?" :thumbup:

That's gotta be a screw up. Unless they're talking about studded snow tires? Maybe they mean with snow chains?

Pretty sure snow tires come with speed ratings which are tested. How can they make such a broad over riding statement like that? Talk about CYA

Wonder if that is just legal bs to cover the lowest common denominator like Walmart snow tires and the like. There should probably be the same warning for their regular tires too.

I think it's only the FR-S that is held up by the paperwork error, at least that's all that has been reported.

that comment in the OP is in the Tire Chains section of the manual. So it is definitely a typo. Should say "Driving with snow chains".

That makes more sense.

Ok if you want to learn say the bespoke system then you'd probably look through it......

Its like those license agreements for computer software....its there but no one's gonna read that.

In the BRZ owners manual:
Actually it is not in the tire chains section, it is in the driving information section and separated from the tire chains section with an item on fueling in cold weather.

In the FRS manual:

I would say it is in the tire chain section of the owners manual. In the FRS manual I saw today does not include the section on fueling in cold weather, so the comment on speed appears to be a warning in the Tire chain section. At the same time the tire chain section says you should not use chains at all, so if the comment is about only running 50kph max. refers to only when using chains, it makes even less sense!

But I agree it is either some sort of a legal statement or just an error.
Who would try to sell a car in Canada or the Northern US that was essentially defined as useless in these climates?
