Only reason I got an intake is because the sound is sexy as hell.

I would really like a CAI for the sound. My buddies Perrin sounds so beastly, however I can't justify the $$ when the stock air box/CAI does amazing. Not to mention, I really don't want to have to rip the bumper off every time it needs cleaning..

The only reasons to buy an intake are sound and looks. If you don't care for either of those, buy a drop-in filter and call it a day. If you do want an intake, get a short ram. They will make same power as CAI and you won't need to drop the bumper to install/clean.

I have the FA20Club CAI. I really like the sound and that's all it really brings to the table. Maybe MAYBE some power after a tune. It is a pain in the ass to replace/clean the air filter.
Unless you like the extra sound it brings. Just get a drop in. If I did it all over again I'd probably look towards the TRD or Grimspeed intake but end up missing the noise the simple tube design brings. |
yea someone popped in a reusable drop in after market before i bought and i am hearing that's the same if not better then the intakes lol

Drop in filters are the best bang for the buck and if you decide to keep most of your car stock. If you decide to get a tune and a full exhaust from headers to cat back, I would go with a CAI or a drop in filter with a upgraded snorkel. Snorkels by them selves I believe dont add much power and if anything lose power if they arent tuned because of all the turbulence the MAF gets from the extra air coming in.
I remember reading somewhere, I believe drift-offices dyno's of the HKS header that they could of gotten more whp if they didnt have the AFE takeda intake installed because the intake was causing a lot of turbulence at the MAF. But once you start upgrading other parts like your exhaust/headers, a CAI will add more power than a drop in filter. Look at Perrins dyno's and other peoples independent dyno's when they have have header backs or have headers, front/over pipe, cat back. For example Perrins Inlet & 3 inch CAI which requires tuning, they noted that it added 3-6 WHP on top of the 2.75 inch CAI that didnt need any sort of tuning. The 2.75 CAI had about 4-5 WHP added so the 3 inch CAI added about 8-11 whp total. |
Yea we are doing the buddy club headers this week(Straight pipe after headers LOL Loud much?), being that the buddy club spec 2 exhaust already got installed last week. Then the Big Issue The TUUUUNE >.< so many options it is annoying might be a poll just for that topic.
