Front & Rear Tow Hooks

I am looking at options for a front plate mount, but also plan to get proper tow hooks. What is the difference in towing from the front or rear? Is one way or another bad for the drivetrain?

The reason I ask is, I could go with the plain Grimmspeed plate mount for the front and add tow hook on the back. If there are any issues in towing from the rear, then I think I will go with the Raceseng mount as it allows you to interchange a tow hook.

:thanks:

You could always remove the license plate frame in the event you needed a tow. It should be easily possible without tools using the leverage that the entire mount gives you once assembled.

tow hooks are for moving a car around a race track/paddox/shop etc. All places you wont have a license plate. I hope you don't plan to tow your vehicle down the road with an aftermarket tow hook.

I take it the aftermarket hooks are for on track only?

what do you think tow hooks are for?

They're mainly for looks anyways, if you were really considered with the function of the hook there's a factory one in the trunk. It's just bare bones and doesn't look cool.

My review of the Raceseng Tug View tow hook:

You would need a tow hook either in the front or rear, depending on what end of the car needs to be towed (especially onto a flatbed). There's no difference for the drivetrain if your car is in neutral.

I can swap between tow hook & license plate on the Raceseng setup in about 60 seconds, once it's properly set up.

Edit: I should add that for towing purposes, the factory one works fine. I went with Raceseng because I had specific needs (tow + license plate + GoPro)

Towing the car off a track, off a road, on a road, onto a flatbed, and otherwise moving the car while it is immobilized. It's not solely for track use.
