gas spill

Bad day yesterday,,

MY chipper ran out of gas so with the wife gone in the Outback grabbed the 2 gallon gas can and off to the station in the 86, mistake

long story short 1.5 gallons of gas all over the back, rear seats, under all of the cargo/ spare tire area........wow NOT GOOD!

Stripped it all out except the fold down seat, that comes out tomorrow.

Call into insurance as all of the foam in the rear seats are soaked???
car is full of cat litter now,

anyone ever have this happen?

AVodka14 07-04-2014 11:42 AM

Yikes...I would never put a gas tank in my car unless it had a plastic bin to sit in for that reason. Just let it all air dry and take it to a professional for cleaning.

Don't use a shop vac / pulse jet.

point of order kind of thing.

gramicci101 07-04-2014 12:59 PM

Gasoline will eat some kinds of foam, hopefully it doesn't affect your seats.

Jmonty 07-04-2014 02:35 PM

The foam is just in the back of the rear seats/ hold down. And the felt lining, and the cargo cov err over the spare.

the cat litter has done a great job of neutralizing the smell.

why no shopvac to suck up the cat litter?

seats backs are in the sun with the phone showing I hope to help evaporate

has anyone ever clean this on a comprehensive insurance claim?

FRS_FIEND 07-04-2014 02:47 PM

youre a brave guy!! i always put a gas container in the passenger seat.

1 scoot the seat all the way forward to pin the take between the seat and glove box

2 put it in the seat and click the seatbelt to hold it in place.

sorry to hear this happening to you man hopefully nothing too bad happens.

vacuum out the cat litter and use a rug doctor.

Because you don't want to take the chance of the electric motor in the shopvac arcing and igniting gas fumes. Gas fumes are much much more flammable than liquid gas is.

Should be good, just need the rear bottom seats replaced. See what insurance says

And yes the color is what I wanted:wub:, so don't plan to replace

Jmonty 07-09-2014 01:22 AM

so my $100 deductible is really paying off

looks like the estimates is about $1300 replacing the rear bottom seats and one of the foam liners in the trunk. also will be getting of full detail out of this

the fold down portion of the rear seat was fine no gas so its not being replaced just reinstalled

wrohdejr 07-09-2014 02:18 PM

Damn to bad it wasn't a little bit more i would sell you my leather rear seats for 2k so i could buy the Seibon CF rear seat delete. Never been sat in.
