Gauges

I wanted to add some additional gauges and this is what I came up with. I removed the little storage compartment and USB port. The USB port will be relocated elsewhere if needed. I got three 2 1/16th auto meter digital gauges, oil temp, tranny temp.and boost, and made a mounting plate out of aluminum for them. If the angle is just right the gauges fit the hole with out any cutting.

Nice gauge setup! Very clean too!

My carbon fiber guy was just over and can make it in carbon fiber also instead of aluminum.

Would love this for oil temp/boost/IAT (or coolant)

Looks good won't take that away from you, BUT this is DIY section. You might want to add the DIY part of it............... Just sayin

The DIY part is pretty easy, after removing the storage tray I 1st cut a cardboard pattern then cut out the aluminum plate. The gauges fit snugly in the stock hole and the plate I made snaps in place behind the shift lever bezel. I had to bend the top 1/4 inch of the plate to match the contour of the heater control and had to sand a bit at the bottom of the plate.

Next time I pull it out I'll post some detailed pictures.

I got the gauges wired up today. Now the hard part. I have no idea where to tap into the engine oil and tranny for the sending units. Anyone have any ideas?

This is the 1st aluminum plate I made. You can see where I sanded out the bottom to fit the contour of the console and shifter bezel.

I then made a new plate 1/4 inch higher to give me enough height to bend the top tab over.

go to Autometer's site and you'll see a section on installations, one of which is a BRZ; there you'll see where they hooked up the oil temp gauge sender close to the oil filter

by the way, I think you've sure got them beat in the location dept., they've got theirs perched up on top of the dash ---great job!

Thanks to jcw99 my oil temp gauge is now working. Now to tackle the transmission temp.

Lunatic 07-02-2014 09:31 AM

So it looks like dropping the transmission pan and welding in a bung is my best option. Anyone ever dropped the pan on an automatic?

jcw99 07-04-2014 03:08 PM

I have not dropped a pan on one of these, but if it looks good to you, you might try going into one of the lines that goes to-fro the radiator tank. Autometer shows a setup for the water temp going into a heater hose that might be useful to you here.

Back in '81 I had a street rod with a Turbo 400 with both a temp gauge and a line pressure gauge--but I'm sure that car lots more room to work in.
