Normal engine sounds

Driving lately with the window down and no music playing I noticed there is a sound that starts about 3000 RPM that's like a ticking kind of resembles an exhaust leak type sound that's proportional with engine RPM is that a normal sound for this motor. 3-4k rpm and up is pretty noticeable

a video of said sound may help

I don't know if it would be loud enough to capture on film it probably is just a normal engine sound. Does this car have a fuel pump under the hood that makes a lot of sound. It's definitely a motor sound not exhaust. I'm new to suburu motors

Well, first off, the boxer engine is a rather noisy engine, for a gas engine, mainly because it's direct injected.

Yes, it has a HPFP (High Pressure Fuel Pump) under the hood that can make loud "cricket" sounds.

I'm guessing your engine sound is "normal" ...... relax and enjoy the ride .... if something ain't right it will usually tell you with a code......;)
