Takata airbag recall - Is the BRZ/FRS affected?
I've seen tons of news regarding the Takata airbag recall.
Here is one such article: http://www.autoguide.com/auto-news/2...ag-recall.html Quote:

No, if I understand it correctly it was a moisture problem in production (water basically entering airbag inflators and effecting the explosive ammonium nitrate inside it) effecting 2000-2004 or 2005 airbags (in Toyotas and Hondas) causing them to become inoperable. They're currently doing research to see if high humidity can make them inoperable as well. The FR-S is not affected... yet. Chevrolet/GM however had a more recent issue with similar problem from Takata for 2013-2014 Cruze's. It's too early to tell but I don't believe these airbags are affected as I've seen crash photos of FR-S and BRZs where the steering wheel airbags deployed fine. It's a bit too early in the investigation to see how wide spread the issue is right now. |
That's good to know. Thanks!

So now this recall is up to over 50 million cars.. Will that include us?
I just saw an image of them replacing one on a 2015 model Honda, so it's not just batches of units that were effected by moisture like they previously said. |
just looked at the list from car and driver apparently still not affecting us

My wife just had hers done on her 2010 Honda CRV. Until the replacement part came in (took a month) they told her not to drive the CRV and they paid for a rental car. Cost Honda $800 for the rental from enterprise (a 2015 VW Passat)
During the month I compared the drive of the Passat to my BRZ. The Passat was much more quieter inside but had absolutely no road feel. Handling was numb which surprised me. |
60mil cars, I would suspect some BRZs FRSs will be affected. Takata may as well start passing the pink slips. This will break them
