Stock injector order

Does it matter? I noticed that there are letters on the injectors.

For instance, I noticed that on mine I have 2 J's, 1 K, and 1 I, but I took a peek at my buddy's FR-S and he has one with an E.

You talking port or direct? Why are you buying stock injectors?

SPCorBUST 06-25-2014 01:07 PM

Ah I was reinstalling my stock port injectors for a ref (emissions) check this morning. I'll be switching kits after this for CARB exemption.

Reaper 06-25-2014 01:12 PM

port injectors it doesn't matter. **Now I don't know this for sure at all** but I worked in another industry once that coded things like that depending on what machine made them then they were flow matched after the fact. So flow matched sets ended up coming from all over the place since one machine produced such a variance.

U got refd ?

SPCorBUST 06-25-2014 09:05 PM

Yep. Already took the kit off, and got the injectors sorted. I'm going to switch to the JR kit CARB tune as soon as the kit sells, it should be a good comparison. Plan to review the CARB tune for a couple weeks then head back to Bill for tuning again.

Funny thing, I warned the OC Subaru group about a crackdown in Irvine since they're training cops to look for these mods. I had my SRT 4 also get ticketed 2 days prior, different cop, different location, different time of day, both times doing absolutely nothing. The ref told me this morning there's crackdown in Orange, Anaheim, Irvine, and a few other places locally.

BadBRZ 06-25-2014 09:51 PM

one of many reasons cali needs to drop off the map

SPCorBUST 06-25-2014 11:24 PM

Lol you gotta pay to play right? And hey its actually very nice out here. In the 80's and 90's we had smog days, not snow days. Lots of them. Couldn't go play outside or even see the blue sky some days.

Having the beach, desert, mountains, rivers, Baja, and other places in short driving distance with great weather almost year round is also a boon. I've lived all over the US and comparatively, its pretty good out here.

Btw, took a look at your build - very nice. I like the old ride, I've got a couple buddies with a swap  Didn't know AGP made a kit for this car either, I don't think I've seen it in the FI threads. Build quality looks top notch, but I'd expect nothing less from AGP. They were huge in the SRT-4 community.

SPCorBUST 06-25-2014 11:31 PM

You might be alright... I've driven around modded for over 10 years and this is my first trip(s) to the ref. Go figure.

Lets hope i stay lucky, i was planning on slapping a tomei80r and decatting but after the past weekend i was delighted that my nameless 3" turboback was not loud at all.

PS: i already got refd when i was NA it was a crappy feeling lol

regardless i wish you good luck with the new setup, and i'm sure you will enjoy @DeliciousTuning 's tune

Thought I had the injectors sorted, but I guess not. Seems like I fubarred the install on the passenger side, as there is a vacuum leak sound coming from there. I'm gonna pull them again and take a look, but any hints as to what I should be looking at? I figure the top is fine since its not leaking fuel, but maybe those rubber seals at the bottom weren't working properly due to install error, deterioration, some other reason, or all of the above. Truth be told, I'm a total noob at injectors, this was my first go at it.

SPCorBUST 06-27-2014 05:46 AM

Funny thing, I was getting P0171 (IIRC) for lean condition and I thought it was just the 2/3 91 and 1/3 E85 I was burning through (E85 was remnants from my FlexFuel tune, leftover that I hadn't burned off before I put the 91 in) so I thought it was fine. 6 gallons later its still lean, so I try the MAF cleaning but that didn't work. Pretty convinced its a vac leak at the injector bottom, but hoping for input from some of the gurus!

BadBRZ 06-27-2014 06:00 AM

i can't help you on this, but i wish you the best of luck mate.

Have you checked out dezoris' install video?

Assuming you didn't pull the manifold to change injectors, the only thing it could be is the injector grommets. A vacuum leak would definitely cause a lean condition at all times. If you have the means to do real time datalogging, you can spray a can of brake cleaner in the suspected leak area and watch the A/F Correction. If there's a leak, it will decrease (due to the richer mixture)

SPCorBUST 06-27-2014 06:34 PM

Yeah, I did not pull the manifold, just the rail. It's a noticeable sound, I've never had a leak there before it's interesting, annoying and troubling all at once. I was planning on purchasing those rubber grommets from the dealer today.

Might be the vacuum lines, do you have them zip tied?

SPCorBUST 06-28-2014 12:38 AM

Yep. Went through and did several checks. Ordered the grommets and o rings, should be here next week Wed or Thu. Pulling them tonight to have another look.

SPCorBUST 06-29-2014 01:13 AM

Pulled them, it looks like its the injector grommets that are bungled.

BadBRZ 06-30-2014 10:41 AM

GOOD TO KNOW

SPCorBUST 07-09-2014 12:54 PM

Just an update in case anyone else comes across the issue, from the fuel rail side moving down into the manifold, the large rubber grommet that sits at the middle step solved all of my issues. The injector now seats properly and I do not have the myriad number of codes associated with the vacuum leak and subsequent leaning on that side.
