Toyota Mega Web
Last month, I had the pleasure of spending three weeks in Tokyo.
Amongst the amazing food, crazy nightlife and non-stop sensory overload, one experience stood out as being a definite highlight of my trip, and that was my day at the Toyota Mega Web. I thought I'd share some photos of it with you guys (please excuse my poor photography - I ain't a pro!) Here are a couple pics from the first exhibit of the Mega web, the History Garage and Design showcase which held a huge collection of classic Toyotas, as well as cars (real and dye-cast) that influenced Toyota's early designs. https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3873/...b67a0493_z.jpg https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3904/...9377e2ee_z.jpg https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5502/...85cefb98_z.jpg The next exhibit was the Toyota City Showcase. Here's when things got crazy, as I had no idea what to expect. When those automatic doors slid open, my mind was absolutely blown. I hope the photos speak for themselves! https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2906/...21f120b9_z.jpg https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2914/...a38a76c3_z.jpg https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3906/...e7a19d64_z.jpg https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3885/...c310535c_z.jpg https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2933/...42cd19ca_z.jpg https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5519/...9b4326f5_z.jpg https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2928/...ccd2d623_z.jpg https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5510/...0ca81137_z.jpg https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5535/...05046cdb_z.jpg https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2920/...7ed6059e_z.jpg https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2938/...e84209b7_z.jpg https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2928/...b7096f5e_z.jpg https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2910/...6a210fce_z.jpg https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3916/...7355e3b7_z.jpg https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3835/...83e88332_z.jpg https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3888/...3dc4d93c_z.jpg https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2919/...1670a793_z.jpg Blaarrg I want it all!! https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3852/...5d8ed05b_z.jpg https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5498/...976c2013_z.jpg Trying to contain my excitement sitting in the TRD demo car https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3888/...e77fc2f1_z.jpg https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3873/...a601a334_z.jpg https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3919/...1602299c_z.jpg https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2931/...5d26a61e_z.jpg Unfortunately, due to schedule constraints and travelling with people who don't appreciate cars nearly as much as I do, I wasn't able to spend as much time here as I had liked =( We really were just "passing by," having to walk though this building to get to the Sega Joypolis and Onsen, but I secretly wanted to stay here forever! They also had the rest of Toyota's current production cars to see and touch (like a giant showroom floor) but I only stuck around the 86's as I wanted to stare at them for as long as I could. If you're ever in Odaiba, do yourself a favour and check this place out! p.s. The only thing I wanted to pilot over a GT86 that day =) https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3895/...85c49a00_z.jpg |
Ah I realized I posted in the wrong section!
Mods, please move this to media subforum! |
I HAVE to go there once! :confused0068:
Nice cars & nice pictures man! Thanks! Grtz |
I'm so jealous - when I went there weren't nearly as many 86's :(
|
Nice! It's been years since I've been there but I'm looking forward to going there again this fall.
Did you get a chance to go to the gift shop area where they have the 100,000 yen model cars? |
Revisiting Japan has been on the top of my list, but every time I see pictures like this, I don't think of going back. There's so many things I want to do, I'd need 6 months over there to do it all!
|
Last time I was there Gundam Land alone took an entire day....

I would love to visit that place and Sega Joypolis. One day I hope to take a vacation there and also visit Akihabara.

Some 1:64 were going for hundreds of dollars! Quote:
We got a portable wifi hub with our apartment rental so that really helped with navigation. Quote:

Nice, never knew that place existed. I'll try to check it out.

Is it easy to buy trd parts there? How does the pricing compare to the stuff we have here? Thanks!!

Ugh, I must've gone to Mega Web on the absolute worst day. The day I went the Toyota City Showcase area was closed so I got to see nothing in that area. No RX-78-2 back then either. I did see the stuff from the History Garage though, lots of good stuff there.

86`s everywhere...

Japan is an expensive trip, and there's so much cool stuff to see there. But a room full of 86's - most of which I recognize... no way you could pass on that! Thanks for the pics! and a cool post dude! :D |
Its like you died and went to 86 Heaven
Those TRD racing seats tho :confused0068: That Gundam is probably operable..Dont F#%& with Japan  |

As for the pricing, most of the stuff is definately cheaper - but that's because you don't hafta pay importation fees and such. i.e. TRD sound changer is about $40 here? I paid a little over $30 (3000yen) for mine. You're also limited to what you can fit in your luggage =( I'll post pics when I go on my lunch. |
Here's some pics I stole from my friends FB.. It's the selection of 86 parts at the Shininome location (Tokyo bay). I didn't bother taking any pictures of the selection at the Yokohama location.

damn i wish there was a location near me where i could just walk in and be like,
"oh ill have some of these and those!.. and within minutes.. BAM, new tail lights or exhaust |
We absolutely need a resale store in America...Like a Gamestop for car parts...Trade your used parts in for credit towards new or other used parts. Who wants to start a business with me?..lol
|
Ah great stuff. Last time I went to MegaWeb, there was one plain 86 on display, but this was 2 years ago.
You dun goofed OP, I bought so many car mags at that megaweb store over there, place is a gold mine. Think I bought a couple 86 mags alone. Japan, I miss it. |
I was there last year! You went on the right day with all those 86 demo cars there! The Tokyo bay Superautobacs has the best selection for 86s. Although the Japanese are more order oriented than off the shelf retail. If you want specific parts for your car, just go to any area86 and order what you want. It arrives in a day or two. So if anyone is going to japan and want to buy specific parts just plan in advance and visit an area86.
