Clutch/brake smell
I'm one of the first 86 and took delivery last week, 5/18. Sorry, no pics at the moment.
However, my concern is after driving, I keep smelling either my clutch or my brake burning. I don't know if this is normal thing on a new vehicle or there's some kind of problem with my clutch. I have never bought a new manual vehicle before so I do not know if this is a normal process. However, I have bought many used manual vehicle and have not experience this kind of problem unless my clutch is worn out. Is this normal during this break-in process? **By the way, I'm not driving it hard or riding on the clutch. Thanks! |
Yeah it's normal for the first few hundred miles while the manufacturing oils burn off. Don't do any excessive braking or abusive driving during this period.

Thanks! I thought it was me, not knowing how to drive....guess it's a relieve after all.

I'm glad you asked this. I would have probably worried about the same thing myself.
This is the first manual car I will own. So I probably would have freaked myself. bneale |
This happened with my Celica, I took it in twice to get checked out I was so nervous! It was fine though.

I'm smelling it too on my manual... it's normal. I've got almost 600 miles on it and it's going away.

I can smell oil and brakes. I do not smell clutch at all. Try slipping it less.

Just confirming I have the same thing - shouldn't worry too much. I'm keeping it under 4000 RPMs as much as possible, but with the smell I can just pretend that I just did a hardcore lap or something ;)

Let's be nice, gentleman.
