Interesting rumors!

Will @ 468power

Just wanted to let you know, this was posted a few days ago, in the BRZ forum, from a different source (which is how it was a few days older)

no one seems overly pleased with the rumor, or its validity.

The BMW partnership is for a full sized sports car (or mid-sized modular platform according to motor trend), bmw does not make an affordable entry anything really..so I do not see the partnership replacing the subaru one here.

But really, :iono:

April Fools!!!

IMO - A robust inline 4 or 6 like the BMWs or Toyota 2JZs would be pretty sweet engine for a light weight RWD lower cost platform such as the FT86.

I love how they always post up stock photos of current lineups, like it validates their rumors. Oh geez look, a stock factory interior!

This second project car between BMW and Toyota will essentially be replacements for the BMW Z4 and Toyota GT86 / Scion FR-S come 2017. What is known about the project is that it will be the first mid-engined mainstream two-seater model for both brands and will likely sport a hybrid power train with a six-cylinder engine.

Wouldn't a mid-engine be a successor to the MR2? And not the 86 platform?

Didn't they say it was supposed to be a hyper car. Kind of like the i8?

There is nothing in that article except rehashed speculation, rumors and innuendos. I do not understand why online sources even bother to type out and post crap like this like this. Oh wait,.......click bait.

Thats actually not true. The first joint BMW/Toyota car will be a midsize, not a full size.

Currently what is being reported is Toyota and BMW are working on a new modular platform that will underpin all future sports car for both companies.

Going to a joint modular platform will save a lot of time and R&D for both BMW and Toyota. But again, everything is rumors at this point so take it with a gain of salt.

While I do agreed with you for the most part, people said the same when Peter Lyon of MotorTrend reported that Toyota was working on a LC (SC replacement) and new Supra concept (with FT-HS styling cues).

I'm not saying the media is always right, but we shouldn't be saying every report is "BS" if you will. But than again, only time will tell.

It must suck to have a sweet little car in your driveway but spend all of your time worrying about what the next version might be.

My mistake, autoblog kept saying full sized when I read reports

gramicci101 06-23-2014 02:35 PM

I have to say, I really like the BMW Z7 concept pic. A Z7M that looked like that wouldn't be too bad at all.

Now if only I could afford it...
