Rota RT5 18x8.5+44, 18x9.5+44

Due to the new brakes I've been on a wheel hunt for the last couple months. I was finally getting the car together and the new Brembos killed my last wheel choice. Ultimately it came down to looks and availability.

These are Rota RT5s 18x8.5+44 Front, 18x9.5+44 Rear. I went "semi-staggered" with 255/35-18 Front, and 265/35-18 Rear. I wanted to keep the tires square, but the wheel choice killed that idea.

Custom Gloss Black powder coat with yellow APEX decals to match the calipers.

Oh, and the reason why I don't have the TC105Ns any more:

looks great! congrats. I like Rota Wheels. functional yet won't break the bank while still looking good.

Vten 06-23-2014 12:30 PM

Car and Wheels look good man. Saw the wheels at the wheelmedic last time it got powdered. E-man told me it's yours .

How do you like the innovate ? Did you install it yourself ?

Love the Innovate SC. Instant torque on demand with no lag. The car could be NA.. I did the install myself. It went relatively smoothly. I took my time with it.

Sweet !! Who tuned it ? Did you get them dynoed yet ? I need to get the FI kit in order ... Too much playing around looking for wheels .. Lol

looking really good. i agree that the wheels are great deal and im sure all the negativity thrown towards them is from butthurt people who spend way too much on wheels and wanna make others feel degraded :)

Draco_PR23 06-23-2014 01:16 PM

Looks great!!!
I have the same set but mine are Flat Black and I also considering getting some STi Brembos.

I'm having Delicious Tuning handle that end of things. Dyno will be in a few weeks. I have to sort a couple things first.

I've had both. From custom TE37s to a set that cost $99 per wheel new. There's benefits to both approaches.

cool. The Brembo swap is pretty easy actually. It happened to be the source of my biggest headaches, but that was all due to poor prior planning.

curious as to why you didn't go with 9.5's all around.

also, what coilovers/springs do you have? it looks like you stopped updating your build thread looonnnggg ago.

ModBargains 06-23-2014 02:16 PM

Good looking wheels and bay!

I wanted to. But the RT5 (and Grid, and RPF1, and 57C6, etc.) don't clear STI Brembos in the 18x9.5 size. So I had to go staggered. That's why I "semi staggered" with a 255F and 265R.

Looks bad ass! I really like how your gloss black wheels looks.

Suspension setup?

SkAsphalt 06-23-2014 05:54 PM

Looking very nice! I went with Hyper Black myself, though my brakes stick out just like yours haha. the RT5's are growing on me the longer I have them. I like the decal on your spoke. I was thinking of doing something similar but I have not decided what to do yet

To be fair, my build thread is WAY out of date at this point. I'll be working on it this week hopefully.

Currently I'm on RCE Tarmac II coilovers with 400 in/lb springs F/R. Vorshlag camber plates in the front, stock upper mounts in the rear. Whiteline rear camber bushings and adjustable front sway bar links.

I'm not sure how much lower than stock the car is. Front camber is -2.5, Rear -2.2, 0 toe all around. Though with the added clearance the +44 offset is giving me in the rear, I think I'm going to dial out some of the rear camber.

WheelDude.com 06-25-2014 04:37 PM

Looking very nice, great work on the car! :)

I've owned all sorts of wheels. From a custom set of TE37s to a set of wheels that were only $99 each new.(edit: didn't realize I said this already in this particular thread, but I'll leave it here for emphasis) There's pros and cons to both. In this instance, a set of Rotas was the better choice.

Here's a pop quiz:

5 wheels from 5 different manufacturers, all with the same design.

Which is the original?
Which is a knock off?

Wheel 4?

I don't care who makes that, but I like them a lot. Info once the guessing game is over?

I'll post the sources tonight. But I think some people will be surprised by how much copying happens in the wheel industry.

Timmy_Jones 06-26-2014 05:28 PM

amazing, even the decal on the wheel which I thought I would despise. whole car is incredible, well done.

No one else wants to guess it seems. It's ok. To be honest, I don't know which is the original. And knowing where each wheels comes from doesn't help.

Wheel 1:
https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2930/...23785e81_o.jpg
Ferrari 599 GTO OE wheels

Wheel 2:
https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3916/...777b9e3c_o.jpg
HRE S101 aftermarket wheels

Wheel 3:
https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2932/...7bf5f3cc_n.jpg
Wiesmann Roadster MF5 OE wheels

Wheel 4:
https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3850/...276a36032b.jpg
BBS F1 aftermarket wheels

Wheel 5:
https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5590/...97a5a089_n.jpg
Verde V99 Axis aftermarket wheels

No while it's possible that BBS manufactures Wiesmann's wheels, a close look at the hub area on the Ferrari wheels shows they're different. HRE's design is different from the rest as is Verde. Now Verde will get criticism because they have a very inexpensive cast wheel. But what about Ferrari, BBS, and HRE? At least two of them are copycats as well.

Ultimately, no brand is innocent, no matter their reputation. Wheel designs spread freely in the industry and that's not going to change any time soon.

Looks good.

Paint those calipers a bright red and both the calipers and wheels will pop even more.

Second look, vivid blue calipers will tie in with your lug nuts.

Where did you guys pick up your RT5s from?

zuurdeegfrs 07-15-2015 12:41 AM

Setup looks awesome man great job! I just received my rota mxr's today. I have the same exact setup as far as specs of the wheels themselves. I'm looking into tires right now, do you have any rubbing issues with that wide of a tire in the back at all? Or up front? I was think about doing a 245 up front and a 255 in the back.

Thanks
