Regular Unleaded

Hey folks,
I haven't seen anything on the forums, or found anything.. So I'm going to ask. Have any of you tried regular unleaded? Like 87 Octane? If so, any issues? My dad keeps pestering me to try it with me always complaining about gas prices up here $1.65/Litre for 93 from Esso. So I figured I'd ask if anyone has had any experience with it
Thanks!

Stick with 91 or 93. Your car will thank you, and your wallet won't give a shit.

Higher compression = needs higher octane

Natheria 06-21-2014 09:54 PM

There's a reason why it says required and not optional like some cars that take premium.

You most certainly need to absolutely fill it up with Premium fuel and nothing less. Your engine will just thank you MUCHO.

I don't want to be a jerk, but people shouldn't be buying this car and modding it only to complain about the price of premium fuel. Daddy probably shouldn't have bought you the car in the first place.

Premium vs. Regular is a fixed expense you can calculate for in your budget. Its actually not much at all u less you drive like 30,000 miles a year or some insane number of miles like that.

Because the compression ratio in this car is so high, higher octane fuel is required to prevent detonation. If you were in a situation where only low octane fuel was available, I would keep the RPMs below 3-4K and not go WOT until you can get better fuel.

Not questioning your father's intelligence at all...

but maybe don't take his advice on car related matters in the future.

As I see it, you have two options OP:

1) Play by Daddy's rules
2) Ask for a higher allowance

Your dad shouldn't give you advice on cars, read your god damn gas cap. It says PREMIUM ONLY. do not run a car with a high compression ratio on regular fuel.

Best case it will pull timing and keep things safe. You'll lose a lot of power and fuel economy will probably go down (based on an accidental fill on 87 in my previous car... )

It isn't likely to save money any way you look at it, but it could damage the engine and cost a bunch.

Hahahahaha this fucking kid is NEVER going to post a thread again hahahaha. I thought I was an asshole but you guys are hilarious lol.
