2015 FR-S impressions
 

I forgot to snap some pictures of the interior, but it's all minor changes. The only changes I noticed are that it now has the JDM knee pads and speaker grilles. They're both some cushioned leather/vinyl material.

The dash panels aren't as glossy as I expected. They're a matte CF weave. I'm personally not a fan.

The knee pads are not yet available in the warehouses. Might take a while to get them. The part # for the door speaker panels aren't even recognized yet.

The 14's already come with knee pads.

Is that the new silver color? I'm interested in how the new suspension drives.

I don't hate those dash bits... It's better than the shitty design from previous.... I also dig the knee pads and speaker covers but plan to go the Alcantara route for those.

Agreed. Ruins the lines of the car. A short mast on the 2013 mount was much better IMHO.

I think I prefer the jdm tips over these. I need to see more rear pictures of the car.

In fact, I'd prefer to not have radio if I could have my car with no roof antenna at all. Can't be bothered to do an antenna delete though, that hole will be expensive to fill and paint.

I was wondering how hard it would be to do an antenna mount under a roof spoiler. Cover the OEM hole and wire (to the spoiler) with some vinyl painted to match? I know there is an entire thread on antenna mods, but I have not heard of anyone trying this one yet.


A clean roof line would look so much better than this sharkfin Cr@@p.

You guys are so finicky... I've never heard a more bitchy and whiny group of people. You nitpick about the smallest god damn things.

What is this wonderment thing that people have about shark fins? I always thought the BMW's looked stupid with their fins, but the FRS/BRZ is f-fin ridiculous. It's just a hollow mold stuck on top of the antenna base to "dress it up". The only reason a finlike antenna is ever needed is for satellite radio which is a bunch of cross marketing BS.

Rather have the TRD shark fin, I like the longer, lower lines it gives the car...

Some people love the look of this car and are planning to buy one. So when they see downgrades in appearances, it's disappointing. And besides, this is a forum and a thread about the 2015 model impressions - so I think it's appropriate to voice our opinions.

I am also one that is disappointed with the cosmetic changes. That antenna kind of ruins the sleek and sporty profile of the car in my opinion. It just looks so out of place. It needs to be lower profile. And the fake carbon fiber dash is so ricey. The old T patterned dash looked perfectly fine to me - it was dark and matched the pattern of the rest of the car. The only thing I might like about the 2015 is the shock/strut upgrade. But alas, I am going to try to wait for the 2016 models after all.

Is the antenna just for the radio or does it do something else? Like navigation

I was in a hurry so couldn't really get more pics, sorry guys. We didn't think to compare the new color (steel) to my buddy's 2013 (argento). Car was dirty anyway. The sharkfin doesn't look too bad in person.

Maybe the antenna is a Subaru parts bin sharkfin? It doesn't look that bad. Looks somewhat similar to the 2015 STI antenna:

Looks like JDM tips to me but theyre tucked in instead of flush to the bumper.

Of course it's the same sharkfin antenna. The car shares so much with the Impreza already...what's another few pieces at this point?

I drive a GT86 (i'm from Belgium, Europe) and these tips are not the same in size, here the tips are way more aggresive i guess, they even stick a bit out from the back! :) The ones on the '15 FRS are quite recessed :iono:

I removed the antenna rod on my GT86 and checked.
Radio was pure static noise, but the satnav in the Toyota Touch&Go head unit worked fine.

I think the americans have some laws that says they can't have the same exhaust tips that the rest of the world gets.
So the 2015 GT86 will most likely not have that silly looking exhaust of the FR-S.

The dash trim in that first picture isn't bad at all IMO. I'd take that over space invaders ;)

The padding doesn't look great aesthetically (too much red stitching), but I did notice one of my knees was slightly sore after my last 2-day track weekend. If these pads do the job, they could be good for track/autocross guys.

The rest of the changes (shark fin, exhaust tips) I could do without.

OMFG :drool::drool::drool:. Where can I buy this shark fin? Oh wait, is it functional? If it is, it would be way better than my Beatsonic.

I don't listen to radio so this would be a waste to keep it on.

I coincidently got my FR-S two months ago at Piercey Scion as well.

Yeah, but are the tips smaller or nitpicks? Cause the tips are pretty god damn small. :bellyroll:

Well, on another note i prefer getting the silly tiny exhaust as stock and being allowed to put whatever i want on it (aftermarket) afterwards. Cause our laws (here in Belgium) forbid us easily over 50% of all the possible aftermarket exhausts out there & our market is very limited :thumbdown:

Anyway... The '15 exhaust is still better then the one from '12-'14 :p
I like it, i'm most curious for the colors! Like the new gray one more then the halo :)

Thanks, I actually got a BRZ a while ago and still have it! I just wanted to take pictures, because a sales guy told me they just got a 2015 in.

Will the exhaust tips be available as a separate parts purchase? If so, and if not outrageously priced, I might get some for my Monogram.
