OE FRONT BUMPER REPLACEMENT

FRS got backed into and is now in need of a front bumper replacement.

so far i'm looking at this inexpensive solution

http://www.discountbodyparts.com/cat...6-9002cbc5c5aa

Is this exactly the same as the OEM one? If not, what's the difference?

also, any other suggestions for front bumper replacements are welcome

Fitment and material quality are unknown on aftermarket parts. If you buy it do all of your test fitting before it goes to paint because there nothing you can do after it's painted. A new oem front bumper should be about $100 more and no shipping

I wouldn't risk it. Even if it's decent quality, there could be fitment issues seeing as it's an aftermarket part.

My front bumper got hit and run while I was away too. I shelled out for an actual OEM replacement since I didn't want to deal with any more headaches. I think it cost me around $400.

They only come raw plastic. Not painted

Yeah, I got mine directly from Toyota. And no, it didn't come painted (I don't think they even offer that option). I do have a family friend who runs a repair shop though, so labour was pretty cheap for me.

Buy OEM. Aftermarket body parts blow (mostly).

Order from Village Scion online (Google).

Rock Auto is a reputable site for replacement panels. Don't know about their selection for new(ish) cars like the FR-S though.

it might be a reputable site for buying parts, but when they dont fit and you have to pay return shipping it would be cheaper to just buy an oem bumper. list price on an oem bumper is right around $400. no shipping either since you can just buy it from a local dealer. zero issues with fitment, and if it arrives to them damaged you just get another with no questions asked. we deal with a lot of aftermarket junk people bring in to save $100. they usually pay way more in body labor to get the thing to fit. and it usually still doesn't look as good as an oem straight from the box would have

Yes. They list one option and it's an unknown manufacturer aftermarket cover. Probably from Tong Yang though, where most aftermarket oe replacement bumpers seem to come from

It's a warehouse company, so they probably did not have all the options for what you were looking at, but they offer several levels of replacement - "insurance quality", "good enough", and "I hate my bodyshop." Sounds like you're referring to the 3rd one, but the insurance quality-level is guaranteed OE fitment.

The only thing that sucks is shipping prices from them.

Lol. We get "insurance quality" all the time at the shop. State Farm is the only insurance company that will only use oem parts. Everyone else will use aftermarket whenever available. We send bumpers back all the time and force them to buy oem because they fit horribly probably 50% of the time. For an older car that you don't care that much about, ok. For a 1 year old car? Spend another $100 and buy an oem bumper and not have to worry about it

car-parts.com is a good site
