Is the sound dramatically different from catted to non-catted? I don't mind loud, I just don't want rasp. Currently running catless front pipe matched to an Evo3.

Should go catless on the header, and catted on the front pipe. Evo3 might have some rasp due to the larger piping. This is why I prefer the N1 in this case.

I have the catless JDL EL installed with the rest of the factory exhaust and I'm quite happy with it so far. No rasp and the stock Axelback keeps it quite tame.

I was mainly asking because it's only $100 to add the cat to the P&L header. If I were to redo it and get a catted front pipe, I'd be out a lot more than $100. Just curious as to if the cat really changes the sound enough to make it worth it. Or if the header isn't raspy to begin with, then no need to worry about the cat in the first place.

It will help a little bit, but not a lot. The resonator and mufflers do more. I had a hell of a time fighting rasp on a Nameless 3" header back and that had a cat and 2 resonators. The pipe size was just too large.

My only argument on the cat in a high flow header is the life span. They don't last as long as they do in the front pipe.

P&L offers a lifetime warranty on the cat in their header, which is awesome. If the cat doesn't do much though, I may as well get a resonator or two added to my front pipe.

I meant use google as the search ex. jdl el dyno "ft86club.com" or whatever the google search quick method is.

Maybe not P&L but if I remember correctly there are some drift office numbers if not there was another independent tuner who had EL dyno numbers

I wouldn't say it is a dramatic difference, but a cat will act the same as a resonator as far as volume and "raspyness" reduction.

Not saying it's the case here, but sometimes available stock is actually a bad thing (ie, why aren't they already sold).

It's one of our highest volume items, we're now usually doing a production run of 20 at a time to tide us over for a few weeks. There's no sense in fabricating one at a time like other manufacturers when we know it's more efficient for us (and for our customers) to have them ready to go on the shelf.

Our header will smooth out the 'torque dip' common on the stock engine even without a custom ECU tune. You should not see any negatives from installing the manifold without a tune.

I have the P&L catted and coated header. Straight forward install once stock header->overpipe bolts were removed. everything else is stock on my car except a panel filter.

-Unclip/disconnect both O2 sensors
-Get under car and remove skid plates
-Unbolt stock header
-move O2's from stock header to P&L header
-Bolt in P&L Header
-Secure Vband
-Reconnect O2's

done.

I have a video clip of in-cabin sound in one of my earlier posts. Not very good, but you'll get the gist of it.

Can you describe how it feels? Is the dib gone with more power at the top end?

I will be putting up my P&l catted and coated header for sale soon. Just sayin....

JDL EL catted here. No dip at all. Pulls like a champ to redline. If the actual numbers are a concern, look away: this dyno was a heartbreaker.

Hey batstig I saw that you got rid of the nameless combo pipe. What was the reasoning for that?
