Hey guys! I'm new to the forum but a proud owner of a 10 Series FR-S, I just had a question about the aweful FRS Audio. Is there a way to keep the stock speakers and use an Amp to better the audio?

OEM Audio+

I've heard mixed reviews about the OEM, it seems to be the best option though

You can always try a different HU and move on from there based on your budget and what you want to do. I just bit the bullet and replaced everything except the rear speakers. Some are happy adding the factory sub or going with a loc and amp/sub. OEM Audio+ as mentioned above is also a popular choice. I wanted more control than what they offered so I went custom.

Use sound deadener in the doors. It is like magic the difference you will hear. Only cover about 25% of the panel's surface area though because anymore isn't going to make much of a difference. Then use cardboard and duct tape to seal up all the holes and something like dynaliner over the whole door behind the door card. Night and day.

What did you replace the door speakers with?

Diamond Audio Hex S600S components. Not the ones they sell now, the good ones with the Eton drivers. I had them in my WRX so I just used them since they still work great. Pioneer AVIC-8000NEX for the HU, JL Audio 900/5 for the amp. Bridged front/rear channels for the front stage. Rears running off the HU. Currently have an old JL Audio 10W0 sub in a Prowedge box, but have a Sound Integrity enclosure on the way. JL 10W6v3 will be used with it.

Low budget: installed a 150w amp and sealed 8"sub in trunk. Swapped dash speakers. Adjusted output levels to minimize bass going to car speakers and let sub handle it, which took away 85% of interior/door rattle and vibration.

Sounds... Good. It's no show car setup, but if it were this good from the factory most people would hardly swap much more, let alone complain like we all do about it.

It's plenty loud and thumping inside the car but isn't the kind of loud that annoys the neighbors. Perfect.
