Have you got a price ceiling?

I was thinking earlier about what my price limit is to get this car... Unfortunately knowing how much the US, Japan & UK are paying for this car makes my price ceiling that much lower. If it were 42k in every other country, i would have thought that sounds like a fair price to pay.
But... i have issues with paying that much, while others pay less.

So my price cap is $34k

Whats yours?

Mr Franky 05-24-2012 12:05 AM

Yours is too low. I assume you are looking at the GT? Otherwise you may as well look at other options. My limit is $40k.

JiB 05-24-2012 12:10 AM

It is low, but for 40k there are alot of nice cars out there

Mr Franky 05-24-2012 12:20 AM

You are right. With $40k you can buy some nice cars. But none compare to the 86.

JiB 05-24-2012 12:27 AM

hahah you are right...
i hope it wont be 40k :( convincing the wife will be hard enough as it is

Gir 05-24-2012 12:33 AM

35k for my GT drive away. And higher, and it's not worth getting over a WRX.

Mr Franky 05-24-2012 12:34 AM

I hope you are right with your price guess, that would be a magnificent day for Toyota sales.

Satu23 05-24-2012 12:34 AM

I'd say theres not too much choice even at $40k if you are buying new here. Used cars on the otherhand... :D

davey90 05-24-2012 01:10 AM

hopefully Toyota makes the GTS drive away less then 40k. my absolute limit is 40K. Now i got to think about the insurance side of things...hm...another grand on top...dam....sucks being young to drive.

Nardi330 05-24-2012 01:10 AM

there are definitely other options at $40k. it depends on your taste.

Mines $40k for the GTS inc. on-road costs. Anything more there I'd be inclined to choose a hot hatch or a used luxury car.

Insurance will be cheap for the first year, but it will skyrocket next year after a heap of people drift them into stuff.

Nardi330 05-24-2012 01:26 AM

i tried to get a quote for insurance this morning while i was updating my payment method. Shannons doesn't have 86 on the system yet.

newft86 05-24-2012 01:28 AM

The only reason i can think of why the USA are getting the 86 cheaper than us is the sheer volume of new cars sold there per annum. Our yearly sales is about one month's worth for them. To be frank, we're lucky we're seeing the cars this year at all.

I do understand the annoying frustration in not knowing the price and i will share with you all that i also feel annoyed - i have a huge list of people ready to buy a new 86 the moment pricing is released - it's like sitting on a timebomb.

As for pricing ceiling, who knows what will be acceptable? TMCA will decide the RRP for Australia but the market will ultimately decide whether it will be a success or not.
