CDC Autocross - Behavior
Hey Everyone,
A few people at the last CDC autocross reported to us that several FRS/BRZs were driving dangerously as they left James Wood HS last Sunday (6/15/14) with squealing tires. Since this occurred just after the CDC autocross and near the school, we have to inform you all that this behavior can cause us to lose the parking lot with the school and only bring more attention to the police. Please DRIVE RESPONSIBLY ON THE PUBLIC ROADS, ESPECIALLY NEAR ANY AUTOCROSS EVENT (WITH ANY CLUB). I think the general policy with all the clubs is that if they learn of the offenders, the club typically sends the individual a warning and any repeat offense leads to them banned from the club. CDC is no different. We hate to be a jerk, but it is also no fair for one or few individuals causing the club to lose an autocross location, which affects a few hundred participants. Ed |
Come on people, we have a good thing going on, don't screw it up.
|
While I'm not trying to excuse bad behavior, do note that the stock tire/suspension combo on the twins is very noisy, even without being at particularly dangerous speeds.
When I was on stock tires, they'd scream bloody murder just going around a corner at 20 mph; well within the speed limit of virtually any roadway and not at all dangerous a speed in this car. |

I know that everyone is pumped up after the autocross, but we all need to mentally cool down a little before driving on the public roads. Remember that last year a guy plowed into a family killing a bunch of people in Winchester. So the community is already sensitive to any crazy driving. Basically, if you won't do it in front a police officer, don't do it. BTW, the guy doing the BBQ is a VA State Trooper. |

um okay that's sum bullshit right there. The car is perfectly silent, you need to give'er quite a bit in order for her to start to squeal so yes, you're totally trying to excuse bad behavior. |

Can confirm stock Michelin Primacy tires are squealers. Any throttle amount + some steering input (i.e. going around a corner) from, let's say, a stop sign = squeal like I'm trying to do a donut.

A lot of defensive people in this thread. Tires don't squeal when you're driving responsibly. Don't drive like an ass-hat near events. Whatever you do everywhere else is your business, but we don't want to lose any of the finite number of venues we have.
I will say at my last event, it was the Preludes that went peeling off acting a fool. They were just visiting and not participating. You can't do anything about the spectators and their shenanigans unfortunately. :( |
I got the michelins on mine and I the only time I hear any squealing from them is when I do a left or right turn and romp on the gas other than that it's pretty hard to get them to squeal under normal driving conditions

There is no reason to make tire noises in any car ever outside of a closed course. Sure you might accidentally make a chirp here or there when you hit some iffy terrain, but it's pretty painfully obvious that's not what Ed was talking about here...

This is all obviously not what Ed is talking about. Autocross is for sophisticated and intelligent people who care about cars and want to push them to the limit in controlled environments, not for yahoos.
If one cannot control oneself and act like an adult, then one should not plan to attend autocross events. Small slip-ups can cost a venue. The right answer for the culprits is to understand their mistake, and understand why it is important they not do it again, nothing else is required. |
Hey there Ed. Sorry to hear that this happened. This situation doesn't leave a positive impression of BRZ/FRS owners... it also frustrates the BRZ/FRS owners that have been attending CDC events for a while now (myself included).
Everyone has seen this post, and we also spread it into BRZ/FRS social media sites. We will ensure that everyone sees this before the next event. I'll also make it a point to talk to BRZ/FRS owners about acting professional on and off the course. See you next weekend. Quote:
