Poll: Five Axis S7 rim size
I got in touch with Matt Teske at Five Axis about possibly making the S7 wheels in 18's and his reply was:

While bigger rims may be appreciated more by others, I have concerns about ride comfort, tire cost, suspension and ride balancing, as well as myriad other factors. That being said, I may just end up going with 17's, anyway (although a bit wider than stock), as upgrading to a larger rim may have negative repercussions to the way the car reacts to driver input without significant time and expense put into upgrading and tuning the suspension and chassis.
With that in mind, I'd rather see 18s, as 19s just seem a bit too much for the car, in my eyes. :) |
19's would look comical on a car this size. Nevermind that it would deff affect the ride and feel of the car.
|
I agree 19's are too big and expressed this in my email to Five Axis. I just don't understand 19's on a car that is supposed to be performance oriented and is not much bigger than a Miata.
Looks are great and all, but 19's are gonna take away what this car is all about. Im dead set on the S7 wheels too, by far the best looking wheels I have seen on a FR-S. |
Remember this poll is being watched and sent to Five Axis so every vote counts.
This also could open the door for 18's to be made in their other rims as well. |
18 is the limit. I gotta say I hope the wheel pictured isnt the one in question though. Not very desireable IMO.

Why can't we vote for 17's?
Honestly even 18's are too big for this car. Look at the Japanese market where it comes with 16's and you can option up 17's. Look at what guys are running on Club4AG on the classics 86. Look at what this car is meant for. Nobody who is honestly going to drive this car in anger is going to create a setup based on 18-19" wheels. It just ain't happening. Five Axis already has plenty of super-sized wheels for the cruiser set. Make the S7:F in a diameter where we can actually run decent tires without breaking the bank! Let us setup the car in such a way that it encourages spirited driving and FUN rather than slowing down the responsiveness and ruining the feel of the car! Guys this is vital. The S7:F wheel is the single strongest design element coming over from the Concept that we all fell in love with. We must look forward toward ownership and think of the price we'll pay for being stuck with overly huge wheels. Show cars look great with insanely low ride height and rubber-band tires, but to live with a car every day... to enjoy it on all kinds of surfaces... to keep it lively and nimble... we must run a 17" wheel. Five Axis, please please decide this based on passion rather than committee. Your other designs are beautiful and will surely be quite popular in the larger sizes. Make this the ONE design available in a 17" diameter. It can be so much for so many people. It could be a spec wheel in a North American FRS racing series. It could be seen at SCCA Nationals this year. It could become the go-to design for serious enthusiasts who have followed the development of this incredible chassis over the last many years. And it would look SO BADASS in the trunk of an FRS (a'la Nur Spec spare tire placement). C'mon everybody, speak up! |
I only chose 18 because 17 wasn't available.

I guess the question is whether or not the 19's rub in the configuration they are running on their Black FR-S? If so, 18's are ideal but I don't know what suspension they are running to decide on rim size.

18' :iono: 17' :burnrubber: :eyebulge: |

Also, was there not a time attack in which 18's posted faster lap times than stock wheels? I didn't put 17s because the S7 wheels weren't even being considered in that size. I believe that 18's are a fair compromise for everyone as it doesn't hurt performance (although it isn't optimal) and it doesn't hurt the design of the wheel. I think 18's will be fine for the street. Not everybody is going to track this car. |

Definitely would love to have these in 18'

I know this is a wheel poll but is there anyway we can keep it in the general discussion area for the most views at least until this weekend? We need at least 27 more votes and this sub forum does not get the foot traffic that the general discussion forum does.
