It's car culture. It's done for the looks, attention and the challenge.

No different then the guys with 14lb wheels that will never see a road course or the 500WHP turbo build that will never be driven like it should.

It's easy to attack stance, but just as it's self and all the other different "enthusiast" groups around them, they are deeply flawed.

Fair enough.... but there has to be a point where real world practicality has to be taken into account.... or needs airbags....

Thanks for the chuckle. Short yet entertaining video.

take any girl you know-- and if you explain to her that you go on the internet to talk about the car you have with a group of random users, does she understand the point? probably not.

take the same girl, and allow her to try to explain shoe/clothes fashions to you. will you understand? probably not(i sure don't).

that is why stance doesn't make sense to you(or me). there are certain people that like that kind of look, and will take the time to modify their car that way, because to them it looks better that way. it doesn't offer any performance advantage, it just looks good to them. to explain it any further or more technically, i feel like i'd actually have to like stance enough to be able to defend it correctly..

Atropine 06-15-2014 04:31 AM

I generally do not have a problem with what other people do to their cars...

But when older cars that I like...such AW-11 MR2, N/A Miata, Datsun 240Z, Datsun 510, Early 70s Celica/Supras, 240SX etc etc...

When those cars are not bastardzed and ruined due to "stance" it bothers me...because I won't be able to possibly own one of those down the road.

Then again, people track those cars and wreck this shit out of them, and I don't seem to have as much of an issue with it.

So I have to agree with Demon, I just don't like the look, and I hold that against them.

Stance is cool, because it's guys working on their cars, and making them their own. Lowriders, lead sleds, hot rods, donks, jacked up 4x4's, minitrucks, harley's and sport bikes, and every other style of car/truck/bike culture is the same. As a car guy, I love cars, regardless of how it's done. It may not be the type of car I want to build, but I have borrowed ideas from other genre's, and I respect everything the work others put into their rides.

Davey 06-15-2014 11:48 AM

I think it's dumb. I guess I'm just at a point in my life where I have no reason to respect other people's dumb ideas.

retoocs 06-15-2014 11:55 AM

Stance is lame especially when you live in a community full of speed humps that you can't make over.

If a few call it cool, it would be "cool," right?

Golfball Dimples makes your car faster...duh!

You doing what you want, to your car? yep, I got no problem with that

I lot of people hat rat rods for that reason, they are rusty, and beat on. I think they are some of the coolest, and most creative rides out there, and if I were to do a rod, it would be ratted.

You doing, what you want, to your car, is what makes it cool. It may not be popular, and if having a popular, or generally accepted car is what you want, then do what everyone else is doing. Keyboard commando car critics will leave you alone, if you toe the line, and go cookie cutter.

I hate rat rods because most of them are exactly not that. They are trend jumpers that throw shit tons of money at shops to have them look like cool rat rods. $10k of flat black and pin stripes? No thanks. The real deal had the look because they had to make it look the best they could with limited resources. Painting in their driveways, no money to fix rust, etc... There is one around here that has a full one-off fiberglass body. No idea the cost...

The real deal ones were made before 'rat rod' was even a term.

I think what I, and a lot of others, react to isn't the style, but the lack of authenticity.

Stance is one of the easiest trends to get into because its criteria are so limited. Low and wrong sized wheels and tires. Then because the entrance to the clique is so easy all they have left is to be so extreme they become a caricature of themselves. Happened to the show scene with screens, gauges and neon. Is happening to stance.

I'm also glad 'murdered out' is done, because of the same thing. 'I modded my car by making everything black!' Smh...
