How are you supposed to tune w/o dongle?

I dont think you can get the dngle seperately?

SubaSteve 06-21-2014 09:35 AM

You can buy a license and tune separately which is what I did when I bought mine.

bakerr6 06-21-2014 10:18 AM

the dongle iss for installing the drivers. Unless things have changed since I've used ECUtek (which has been a few years lol) you need the dongle in order to install the drivers.

SubaSteve 06-21-2014 11:37 AM

If i'm not mistaken that is the license key that you guys are talking about.

D K 06-21-2014 04:12 PM

You cant tune without the dongle.

How much is the dongle seperately?

Wrong.

The dongle is used to open the software. When you purchase a license it is assigned to a license and once you plug the cable into your car and do your first flash it transfers it straight into the ecu. From that point on the dongle is only used to run the ecutek software. A cable without a dongle is worthless. You cannot do anything without it. Replacement dongles typically cost $150.00. The reason for this is excutek does not sell dongles separately. So a vendor has to purchase a cable "kit" and then sell the cable and dongle separately which is a rare occurrence. Do you currently have the dongle? If so you need to sell it with the cable as it is worthless otherwise.

Just to clarify one more time the dongle is the license for the software you use on the computer, NOT your car. When a tuner sends you a rom they tie it to a dongle ID so that way only your software can open the file. Selling a cable on its own is only worth $50-100 used.

Also, dongle is NOT "the license for the software you use on the computer" but just a license storage device. You can have many licenses stored on your dongle. Eg I have 2 licenses, one from previous owner and one that I bought. My license was added after I downloaded and updated software from EcuTek.

Thank you for clarifying on this.
