ODO/TRIP - DISP instrument cluster wiring help

Firstly this is what I'm talking about:

In Australia we don't have the km/h/MPH button, so I've imported a foreign version. I want to use it to trigger or complete an earth, to switch on/off the 'handbrake' check for headunit.

I've not taken the cluster off, so not sure if it's even wired on the AU version and just non functional button. But the switch is a soft switch it seems, so not 100% sure if it's even possible or just needs to be powered?

So anyone in the know, or have any direction or input would be appreciated.

What head unit do you have?

I would imagine that there are much easier ways of hacking the e-brake check. I have the Canadian Pioneer OEM headunit and it was as simple as grounding a wire in one of the wiring harnesses behind the deck.

It's not about hacking, I've already got the unit earthed without a problem. I want this as a covert switch to enable the earth check if I ever get checked by police. Then just switch it back to 'normal' usage.

Checked the schematic, pin 1 connected to ground. Pin 2 is ODO TRIP and goes to the instrument cluster. Pin 3 is DISP and also goes to the cluster. Pin 8 km/h MPH goes to the cluster but you can take that out.

Hope that helps

Fantastic. Thx. I had the thought later on, as check that first two as being the the km/mp button loop and that it was probably on another pin. You've confirmed it.

I'll work with that knowledge now!

Thanks, once again.

Did you get this to work? also, where did you order the replacement ODO/TRIP - DISP from?

It's been a while, but I'm pretty sure the first step is getting this harness:

[ame="http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-AVIC-Z130BT-AVIC-X930BT-AVIC-X9310BT-AVIC-X940BT/dp/B00CXTAMWW"]Amazon.com : Pioneer AVIC-Z130BT AVIC-X930BT AVIC-X9310BT AVIC-X940BT AVIC-Z140BH RCA Video Camera Cable Harness CDP1375 : Vehicle Backup Cameras : Car Electronics[/ame]

After that, you do this:
