Brake Light Switch Fault - TSB Fix

I have been dealing with a random issue with my TCS/ABS MIL illuminating after car is hot and sitting at a stop with the brake pedal depressed.

The DTC Code Is: C1249

There is a TSB for this issue from Subaru which applies to multiple cars.

So Subaru warns if you frequently pump the brake pedal you can have a malfunction and says don't pump the brakes.

Or in the case if you constantly bleed your brakes testing pedal feel its possible that the brake switch can get out of adjustment.

In my case the switch was not activating the brake light when I pressed the brake lightly, so the ECU looks at master cylinder pressure and says why is there pressure and no brake light and throws a code.

1. Unlock the switch module by turning it counter clockwise.
2. Push the switch toward the pedal if your brake light is on without touching the pedal and the lock and test.
3. Pull the switch away from the pedal if the brake light is not illuminated immediately when depressing the pedal and lock then test.

Just finished the adjustment. The instruction is spot-on. Thanks Dezoris.

I just recently had to do this. Got ABS and Stability control lights on the dash and brake lights would not come on. Didn't want to go to the dealer so I replaced it myself.

Part number for Scion/Toyota is SU003-02490 SWITCH STOP LP LED for my 2013 FR-S.

1. Bought a new switch online for ~$20 and replaced the old one (just in case)
2. Forgot to adjust the switch and the lights came back on (of course)
3. Adjusted the switch by: rotating it to unlock it
4. Then pulling it out to let the brake pedal come all the way to the top if its travel.
5. Then I pushed the switch in gently until the button was full depressed.
6. Finally, I rotated the switch clockwise to lock it in.

Dashboard lights turned off immediately and brake lights work again.

All good.

Just confirming for the record that this is exactly right. It's quick and easy no-tool fix and my ABS + skid lights turned off and stayed off. I just used a BRZ switch from a Subaru dealer for my 2016 FR-S.

I did the switch swap, lights still on
