"Washington State Troopers Crack Down on Left-Lane Squatters"
http://blog.caranddriver.com/all-oth...ane-squatters/
this is me when I heard the news.. http://content.hollywire.com/sites/d...uccess-Kid.jpg |
It is rather ironic that the far right hand lane is the "fast" lane. As long as you watch for merging traffic, there is less impedance there than any other lane.

RGP: Revenue Generating Policy
It's all about writing more tickets, not correcting the problem. If they wanted to correct the problem they would install signs on the left side of the freeway stating: "Left Lane is the Passing Lane". Awareness is what's missing. We see an article like this about every 2 years. I have yet to hear from anyone about a ticket ever issued for this. Cell phones, yes. Window Tint, yes. Seatbelt, yes. Never left lane squatting and they've supposedly been "cracking down" for half a decade or more! I'd also like to see signs on on-ramps that say "Please be going the speed of traffic before you merge into it!" There's a reason they're called "acceleration lanes" in other parts of the world. |
"Hell hath no fury like a driver stuck behind a Toyota Prius."
Favorit Part of the Artical. |

How many times have I heard the "squatters" say : "I dont care if I am in the fast lane! If I am doing the speed limit, then too bad! maybe you should try going the speed limit too!" These people dont understand that they are by far in the minority and are trying to force everyone else to conform to THEIR version of justice by making the rest of us go around. The FACT IS that in my state, if you have more than 4 cars behind you and you are holding them up you are in violation of the law for "inhibiting the flow of traffic" and can be given a ticket EVEN OF YOU WERE GOING THE SPEED LIMIT. Even the local police would rather see a steady flow of traffic exceeding the speed limit than a line of road-raging pissed off people doing crazy shit to get around the ones "camping in the fast lane". |

I wish I could agree with you on the not educating people proposition...but we have those signs all over the place in Oregon and still nobody follows them |
Eh...
They need to start issuing tickets for this, not just give out warnings. |

Prius should be limited to right lane, or better, shoulder
|
I have no issues with Priuses or Leafs ( I actually drive my wife's Leaf every once in a while and you'd be surprised how responsive that thing is ) as long as they use the left lane as a passing lane :) ..off topic but if it wasn't for a sport car I would never own a gasoline car I guess..since that technology is so outdated :)

Absolutely no one was in front of him, and people couldn't pass on the right due to the speed of traffic in that lane. I got up behind him and honked after giving him a few minutes to either adjust his speed or move over, but he seemed indifferent to letting traffic pass and he just sat in that lane until I was finally able to pass on the right then he just slowly drifted to the right in front of me to block me - when I went around him on the left he was just holding up his middle finger like a true gentleman. Total BS and I hate driving behind trucks, and he just made it so difficult with the other lanes being so congested and filled with other trucks. It drives me crazy that cops crack down on stupid BS like no front plate or tint when they could be cracking down on shit like that that legitimately causes traffic issues. |
What many people don't understand is it's not just annoyance it's a really serious safety issue.. The rest of the other countries have their reasons to strictly enforce this.. I don't remember the times that I have to switch back to my lane when passing the car in the middle lane since another car was also passing the same car from his right.
The passing should only need to be done from left and this should become a habit.. |

People camp in the left lane everywhere, but back on the east coast at least they are good about moving over when another car comes up. |
with that said, during my last visits to Oregon (ORP track events), I've noticed this sign
http://www.alldaycoffee.net/images/sthelens-litter.jpg I think the wording could be a bit better..maybe something like "Please don't litter..Oregon State St. xx " or simply "Don't Litter" ..it actually sounds like "Go ahead ,, make my day PUNK!!" :) |
I live & work within 5 miles of the WSP Training Academy in Shelton. I'll believe this when I see it, typically we get a new batch of green trainees every 6 months or so who get issued new cars and love finding new hiding spots so they can write Taxes...er Tickets, for speeding. Because its mindlessly easy and it keeps their infraction numbers where they are supposed to be. No one one is pulling SUVs and Prius's & old people over for numb-nutting the left lane. It's not a real thing.
|
They should invent a kick system like in video games. Use your phone to down vote a driver. Enough votes and a huge wrecking ball punts them out of the left lane.

Jay would have to bestow me the award of "WA State Top Revenue Generator". :D. I could have a highway or mountain pass named after me:thumbup: With the economy the way it is (and going), this state and local municipalities will do everything in their power to make up for lost property tax revenue. I don't think the authorities will necessarily focus on left lane squatters, but will deploy vigilant patrols throughout Washington roadways in the upcoming months/years to ensure revenue generation. I see it happening already. |

That way if a cop sees a car covered in paintballs he can just pull them over and issue a generic ticket for being a ****head. "Sir.... I dont know WHAT you did, but you MUST be an asshole!" |
I am glad none of you guys are State Patrols... or else..it'd be more like...

Laughing like an ape. This is perfect. Doing the drive of shame would be pretty sweet too. All paint spattered. |

When the traffic is heavy the left lane should be utilized as just another lane with the expectation that all in it be unafraid to um lets say break the law. There's been many a time when I've seen the speed lane loaded with cars all doing 80 or more. That rocks.
|
they could also let trucks do the same speed as cars to get more cars to use right lanes because they wont be stuck behind a truck. i think it'd be safer if trucks were keeping with the flow of traffic
|
god , finally ... i hope this happens long ago , most of the time in seattle area i pass people from the far right lane :( , and sometime i had no choice but using HOV to pass a guy a head of me doing 60 on the left lane .
|
This should be enforced around the Nation.
On a different note. Not that laws so much matter to these guys but.... [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UK3hY49h5Lw"]Audi R8 Spyder massive crash - YouTube[/ame] ...Don't pass on the right. They tried, at the same time. Linked from this thread↓ http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=68947 |
