I may be biased since I designed the second half of the course, but I thought it had great flow overall with some really nice technical parts. I think I psyched myself out though with the attempts at data analysis on the fly, because I peaked on my second run (56.2) and didn't really improve (56.3, 56.8, 56.3). Also didn't help that I coned every run except my first and last. :bonk: Still a fun day.
Nice to see another handful of FRSs, although I wonder if there was some sort of fire sale on the white ones. |
Had a lot of fun yesterday!
It was a little interesting trying to figure out what settings my Koni yellows should be set at considering I dont know much about suspension tuning...just played around with it and tried to see what works. Ended up with: Front... 1 1/4 turn from stiff Rear...1/2 turn from stiff Exciting battle with 7thgear and another miata all day! Interested to see what the datalogger says. I got to drive an old old bmw for fun runs and HOLY that was an experience. 60WHP, no power steering, giant steering wheel on R-Comps. I really had to work that thing. |
Looks like I'll be out the the event on the 19th of July so make sure its a good one for frs' as I would like to win again haha

the results are up!
Fastest Twin did a 57.490, I came in 0.120 after that http://www.wiredmotorsports.com/pitl...l_2014_ev3.php |

If I hadn't thrown my second and third runs away, I might have broken into the 57s with you guys. |

yeah, DNF's are crushing to one's confidence.
my approach for small lots is to walk it twice without breaking stride... and try m y best to actually not talk to people, then sit in the corner somewhere and just replay the track in my head 10-15 times and "swim" the track with my hands left-right to sorta get some muscle memory in there. being #11 means I'm not catching any rides first time out of the gate so I need to make it count. |
I got to do 0.5 of the course walk because I came late...
Got a ride along and after the first one I was completely lost. The 2nd ride along made more sense...might have to rethink my number selection for next year as going later seems to have its advantages.. |

:bonk: Oh well, there's always event #4. |

how did they do it on the 1st event? |

Last year they switched it up. |
High number for the win!
The marshall groups usually go back and forth - one event, the highest go first; next, the lowest. Ryan probably had brain fart because he realized it after the first group was sent out. Looking at my times, I was (apparently) more consistent than I originally thought. And it sucks that my data for my 4th run is corrupt, so I can't compare it to my 2nd run. Regardless, I'm leaving that contraption at home next time, so it doesn't mindfuck me. Relatively speaking, I still had a good time, but I didn't improve at all during the day, so I'm a little annoyed. |

well, one thing for sure is if you're gonna do data on the fly you need 100% concentration. Very hard to do if you have admin duties or are generally a social butterfly ideally you'd want to be close to your rival or buddy in terms of numbering, switch dataloggers between cars, and then use the 50 minutes break time to analyze the data. I will try my best to do just that at Centralia, I might have to exclude Val though and focus on Frankie and Myself exclusively (and that American guy that's coming out) to see if any meaningful conclusions can be made on the fly. |
Thing is, I have never really data'd before, especially for slalom. This was the first time I had it set up where it actually worked. And since I don't have my run 4 data, I can't compare how the car drove with the wider wheels (8s) versus run 2 (7s). However, I think the tires on the 7s are on their way out since they had more slip. But it would have been cool to see the numbers and how the car compares from a square set up to staggered.
