Eneos Sustina or Motul Oil 8100 eco-lite? 0W-20
 

I'm planning on doing my first oil change. I'm at 7200 miles right now and prefer to change it at the 7,500 mile interval.

I have read and heard many great things about Eneos Sustina, but it is pricey. I haven't seen much about the Motul oil so if anyone can throw in some of their opinions, I can try and narrow it down. Just want to make sure nothing in the engine wears too quickly or have any issues later down the road. I plan to auto cross later this year and I don't drive the car hard.

Yes, I know these questions have been asked numerous times but I only see people post about using it and how good they're. Nothing else mentioned in regards to the oil and how more beneficial it is. I have zero knowledge on oil besides that I need 0W-20 and it is recommended to be changed every 7,500 miles, roughly.

Also, what filters are you guys using/recommend?

These are two different motor oils. Although the Motul is mid-SAPS, it is an SM oil. Sustina has a rating of SN. Sustina is substantially lighter the Motul. Sustina is group 3+ and Motul is group 4. There can be no doubt that these are two of the very highest quality motor oils that you can buy. It is not hard to google and find information to help you make a decision that you can be comfortable with. We are all counting on you to make the correct decision.

Do you know what intervals they will be needing to be changed at? I hear that they're good oils but everyone that uses them seems to change them at 3-5k most if the time so I dont want to hit 7500 miles and mess something up. As for filters, any recommendations?

7500 miles easy. Factory filters. There are a lot of opinions. I say everyone is changing too early. Sustina is the lightest. Ecolite is among the thickest. They are both ready for the half marathon. For best value, do UOAs and try to extend your oil change interval to 10k miles and beyond. There are lots of interesting reports here and at bitog to help you make an informed decision.

FWIW, my last change was 8000 on Sustina, and I plan on pushing it up to ~10k

It would be intetesting to see how this oil behaves for you. Flash point and viscosity at 10k miles us the indicator. I expect The Sustina to be good for 12-15k miles. A good, safe OCI should be at 10k miles.

I've been using Motul 0W-20 for about 3 months now. OEM Tokyo Roki Filter. I do frequent spirited driving, lots of constant high RPM around the airport loop at my school. I also run an Oil Cooler. I'll also be doing long distance driving from Daytona to home with my current oil. The oil has been great so far. And I haven't burned or lost any oil.

I'm still looking for concrete evidence there is a reason to go with oils like Sustina over something like Castrol 0w-20 Synthetic.

I ran Rotella T 10-40 dino oil in my WRX but that was on a built motor.

I've only got just over 500 miles on my car so far. I'm going to change everything at 1000, already ordered Motul Gear 300 for diff and trans.

"concrete evidence?" There are UOAs of The Immortal Sustina. I ran it for 40k miles and progressive extended the OCI to 20k miles.

It's a choice. It's your call. Be informed when making the decision for your sled. The Immortal Sustina is much lighter than Syntec-Edge/Titanium-Edge. Sustina is highly refined and has a much higher quality base stock than non-Euro Castrol synthetics.

Ecolite is ester-based. These are entirely different motor oils. Motul, Sustina, and Edge are all excellent products.

I'm aware and have seen the UOA's of Sustina but is anyone posting bad UOA's from other oils? Just because oils X and Y show excellent report cards is not evidence other oils won't have similar or same or even better UOA.

Have you considered the TGMO 0w20 oil? According to various discussions on BITOG, this oil is pretty good as well. Over here in Australia we can't get Sustina, so the next best thing for me was this.

Yes ! Sustina and TGMO are similar in viscosity and TGMO is the spec'd oil. To me, viscosity and how you get there is where it's at. I would definitely consider Fuchs if I lived in OZ. It's too thick, but it sure runs clean. BTW your motor oil prices are obscene. Cheers.

Sure. I don't mean to insult you with comments about stuff you already know. Let's see. One BRZ. Two BMWs. Maybe that is it. We have got diametrically opposed engine designs and corresponding specs. If you can get to the point of feeling comfortable and confident in pouring in the Sustina, you will experience a difference in performance. That's the point- Sustina gives you protection near the other oils, only it is much,much lighter. As I have stated, I can feel the difference, even between Sustina and TGMO.
