Decent affordable coilovers
 

I installed Eibach Pro-Kit springs about 1.5 months ago and I'm not 100% on the ride height. My car is a DD year round so I thought a mild-drop was a good idea for when there is snow on the ground. But now I think it's not quite low enough, I'd like another .5" or so of a drop. And my drivers-side rear sits about .25" lower than the other 3 corners.

I don't want to get Sportlines because I don't want to be stuck being too low in the winter. So I am leaning towards adjustable coilovers so I can raise\drop the car by-season.

Are the Tein Street Basis coilovers decent for a DD? I don't track or anything, just strictly a daily driver. Any recommendations for the <= $800 range?

I strongly recommend the Tein's. We got our set from Mike @CSGMike and they are perfect for daily driving.

I also have Tein on my S14 and they provide a decent stance, while retaining ride comfort. Excellent value IMO

Thanks, I am going to definitely consider the Teins.

I'm torn though, there are times when I look at it and it looks clean and fine as-is. Then there are times when I can hardly tell it's lowered.

I would also take into consideration that every time you raise or lower the car, you'll have to go get an alignment. Plus, will you really take the time to raise and lower it twice a year? I had the same thoughts as you when I first decided to put coilovers on my WRX back in 2002 and to be honest, I set them up for how I wanted them, got it aligned, and never touched the height again in the 10 years I had the car and was fine in NJ winters. I have KW V3's in the BRZ now and again, set the height and have been fine. It's quite a bit of work to have to lift, adjust, lower, measure all 4 corners twice a year and then have to get an alignment. Just something to think about.

Yea I know exactly what you mean, I had the same thought when I had my Integra GS-R years ago on Skunk2 coilovers. I set it and forget it, never touched the height once it was set even when purchasing the setup I had the thought of raising it for winters.

I commute 45 miles one-way to work so I need to have it drivable through snow in the winters. Maybe I'll set it only .5" lower than it is now, which may get me by in the winters. My commute is on heavily trafficked roads that rarely have any accumulation. I definitely do not want to spend $200 a year on alignments. I don't think my toe will be pushed out of spec by a variable .5"/.75".

I did just have it aligned about a month ago, so between the cost of the Eibach springs (~$200) and the alignment (~$95) I did throw money down the tubes, but I think I can probably sell the springs and get something back on them. They are hardly used, still have the box they came in. I just have to bite the bullet on yet another alignment if I get the coilovers.

When I was originally in the market for springs I had my mind set on the Sportlines, but I saw so many pictures of clean looking cars on these boards with the Pro Kit that I thought they'd be fine. Maybe I should have gone with a chubbier tire. Oh well, live and learn.

I don't know, I'm on the fence. The car does look clean as it sits now, just not quite as low as I'd like. My ride quality isn't like stock, but it's not terrible. My gf only complains sometimes.

I think your drop looks great, but I like the mild drop keeps it functional and keeps the factory geometry closer to spec.

do u need camber plates? If not, ST coils and call it a day?

Don't need plates.

I think just up close it looks worse, but from 20+ feet away it looks just right.

The extra .5" probably isn't worth ~$1,000.

A few hundo more... Bilstein B14. Can't be beat in the $1k range - Stainless steel build, monotube, inverted fronts, bilstein quality and engineering, rebuildable/revalvable/customizable, etc.

Keep in mind... Tein loves to rust (google it) ..and love to break too lol (adj knobs, shafts, lower strut mounts, etc).

RCE zero, ST, v1's, bilsteins all great entry level coils that can be had for not a lot of money.

Build quality is top notch. Black coated and billet aluminum all painted. They come with top hats complete assembly swap out of original struts. These are BRAND NEW for $860 shipped. Retail from D2 Racing is $1,525.00. For the money they are better than most $1k coilovers. They also include NEW upgraded front adjustable sway bar end links.
