Team BRG build - 8R6 FRS

22 Attachment(s)
Bought the car at the end of February 2014 and almost done building my FRS in two months. Now I'v just been looking for the perfect side splitters and rear diffuser set up to fit my tastes for the past month. So far this car has been the closest driving experience that I had back when I had an AP2 S2000. I had an 08 e92 328i before this car and it was an awesome car and treated me well for a long time, but I missed the rawness my AP2 had, so I finally sold the e92 and picked up an FRS (I just couldn't get myself to buy a used s2k now for the same price i sold it for back in 07 :( )

Major props to the following shops that have helped me and hooked me up with the parts for my car:
my homie's shop: Inspire www.inspire-usa.com
@ModBargains
@Kami Speed
and also a couple of awesome forum members that provided awesome pricing, packaging, and shipping for the taillights and rear cf spoiler

Should combine forces and put the canards on the car with the lip...
or
put the lip on the car with the canards.

sorry for late response, just saw this today. i love the hotchkis setup. it's not as low as i would like since all my previous cars were way lower, but for this car, i still wanted to retain the "fun" factor and handling of the car. in that sense, i love it. when i swapped out the wheels/tires to my current, the car looked higher than stock - as thats usually what happens with aftermarket wheels on stock suspension. the 1" drop from the hotchkis dropped it back to "normal" height lol. ride is good too. feels barely more firm than stock when cruising, and definitely more firm on turns.

No problem at all! I recently installed my Hotchkis springs and am loving them. Then I realized that once I buy different wheels I would end up where you are now lol. I was lying to myself when I said I won't buy coilovers :mad0259: Regardless the pics look awesome and the car is looking great, keep it up!

yeah it does. i was looking to just lower my car another inch or little less, but damn. it not only totally changed the way it looks, but the handling AND comfort improved a lot! and i thought the hotchkis springs were awesome already

jabongga 04-11-2015 01:17 AM

quick question, did you need to use rear LCA to max out the ST coilovers?

CBRZY 04-11-2015 01:36 AM

i didnt. my rear camber came down to -2.5deg and i liked it where it was so left it alone. if you prefer less camber then you'll need adjustable rear lca's to bring it back closer to stock. you'll also need an alignment afterwards since the toe specs will be off again after installing the lca.

i love the HKS exhaust. it can get pretty loud during start up, but once the car is warmed up, the sound is pretty minimal at idle. at wide open throttle, it can get pretty damn loud lol. there's a very slight drone at cruising speeds, but ive learned how to modulate the throttle just enough to almost get rid of it... took some time driving to figure it out though. not sure how it compares to the TRD exhaust since i never had the TRD to compare, but it's definitely louder hahah

Lovin' your build! Those color matched wheels are sick! I'm looking to get the same wheels eventually and it looks like from the pics that you got them before coilovers. Was your suspension stock when you first got the wheels? If so, did you have any rubbing issues at all? Thanks!

thanks man! when i first put the wheels/tires on, i was on stock suspension. and then i put in hotchkis springs (1-in drop) with camber bolts about a couple weeks later. there was no rub at all on either set up... but with the lowering springs my tire was veryyyyyy close to the stock spring perch at -1.4 deg camber.

it took me a year to decide to spend the money on one... then took almost 4months to have it made and delivered. the wait was killer! lol

Love the car, sir.

Is that wing easy to take off the trunk?

yeah it's pretty straight forward. 3 bolts hold the clamp on each side. the only thing is, i dont think it's as rock solid as my friends with voltex wings, but it's not like flimsy either.

JS + BRZ 07-24-2015 03:01 PM

Ah got it. I want a wing like that but I know Voltex ones are super easy to steal. haha

this is just as easy to steal, if not easier. ROFL :(

i dont street park in sketchy areas or parking lots no more. i might even change up all the bolts/nuts too. when i was putting it together i was glad it was so easy... then realized how easy it is to undo everything too haahha :/

JS + BRZ 07-24-2015 03:14 PM

hahaha yeah. I'm never really in sketchy area with my car, but still that would drive me nuts everyday. haha

Looks awesome, sir!
