full exhaust install help?
 

hey dude and lady dudes,
i already have a perrin catback on my vehicle, and recently my front pipe and over pipe came in the mail.
perrin came with instructions for the over pipe, but the front pipe (berk) didnt.
perrin says to torque the overpipe to the front pipe at 38ft-lb.
does it matter if it is a stock or aftermarket pipe?

sorry for the novice questions. better safe than sorry??

Factory service manual says 31.3lbft but the perrin overpipe uses bolts instead of studs. 38 sounds fine to me

Just look at the two choices you have and use the higher quality one (gasket and bolts).

If either bolt set is stainless steel, use that one. It's amazing how solidly even galvanized or plated nuts and bolts corrode and join together over time. If they're both SS and one set is larger in diameter, use that one - it will minimize any opportunity for shifting of one flange against the other. You can probably tell with a small magnet - some SS alloys are ferrous enough to be slightly magnetic, but a mild steel bolt will pull a lot harder toward a magnet than any SS alloy.

The quality of the gasket is harder to determine without seeing it. Thicker vs thinner isn't always a good guide, nor is metal vs fiber. But they're probably both quite fine, since they come from reputable sources.
