Route Clarification

Hey -

This is just a couple of quick notes that might help a bit with the route instructions and map:

* There are some differences in the street designations written in the route sheet and their labels on Google Maps, maybe most significantly that the sections listed as Decker Canyon and Westlake are simply shown as part of Mulholland Highway. Some of the actual road signage or your GPS's street names may vary from both.

* The map shows a right turn onto Agoura Road at the end; Carl's Jr. is actually located across US-101 at the northwest corner of Kanan and Thousand Oaks Boulevard -- turn into it on the left just past TO.

* Anyone who wants to avoid that last section of Mulholland which includes a bunch of very tight, steep, oddly cambered (and absolutely wonderfully FUN!) turns (aka 'The Snake', I think) should make an early left turn at the first crossing of Kanan Road.

I'm in Santa Paula but I'm ok with waiting for the northern 805s. Should we meet up in Ventura or maybe Camarillo?

All the folks planning to come from Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties should check out Kevin's thread suggesting a meet at the Esplanade Shopping Center in Oxnard [between the Oxnard Boulevard and Vineyard Avenue off-ramps of the Ventura Freeway (US-101)] at 8 AM to caravan down to Woodland Hills.

Yep, that happened! It was fun for Kay and me to meet the gang, both at the Esplanade and at Rite-Aid. We started with the first group, about four cars behind Joe. There may have been some confusion about the closure of Tuna Canyon, but we followed the car in front of us down Topanga to PCH, where all that was left of our group was five 86s. We pulled ahead of the others, going barely above the speed limit, and met Chris, who just happened along in his dark blue 86. We waited at the turnoff to Deer Creek Road, about 20 minutes, until Fred and Nathan arrived in the S2000 with Tony and Audrey in the MazdaSpeed3. Chris dropped off at Yerba Buena, but we had a great FUN run up to The Snake. Kay and I followed a group of mostly white 86s eastward and U-turning back, and then we made one more pass westward, looping via Kanan and Troutdale. It was a great day, guys; thanks to everyone, and we look forward to a repeat.

Show us some pix and/or videos!

Had some fun today joining someone's group of WRXs, Zs, and one Fers. We headed west and caught lunch at Neptune's Net. On the way back, we got a clear shot up Mulholland to Decker and had a blast.

Over all the drive was fun, other then the fact that the leaders ditched everyone and the rest of the groups got lost. It was poorly organized, but none the less I ended up leading a group of us toward the most curvy roads that were not on the manifest.

Had a lot of fun meeting fellow 86ers. I would have to say though there was not too much organization as far as groups sticking together, not to mention the parking lot that was chosen as the meeting location was in a very crowded area making it difficult to keep groups together through the traffic lights.

Still had a blast none the less. I recommend some of you guys take a cruise up this way, north of Santa Barbara. We have some very nice canyon roads with much less of the crowded streets.

sucks that I missed this :( I hope it went well!

I went for a cruise with my buddy in his z06 a few days ago on angeles crest and ran over a hefty sized rock on the road. Needless to say, she'll finally be fixed tomorrow.

Yes the location was a big mistake because of that turn to topanga split everyone up, the next one that I will make will start at golden spoon instead, that place is already in mulholland hwy so that way it will lessen the chances of people getting lost. As far as the leaders ditching yes some of them did but I was trying to get everyone back together but it was too late everyone was already going separate ways. oh well you live and you learn.
