New 2014s still have early issues? Prospective buyer

I'm just wondering if the latest 2014 cars coming out of production still suffer from the many first year issues reported by early purchasers.

Have the idle, fuel pump, rattling, etc... issues been finally cured?

If anyone has purchased a car in the past few months or has any feedback, I and I'm sure many prospective buyers would be very appreciative.

My 2014 has crickets in the fuel pump. Subaru and Toyota have decided it's a feature, not a drawback. 2 oz of 2 stroke oil per tank makes them go away.

The idle dips and stumbles sometimes, but that's happened on every car I've had that has working air conditioning. An OFT makes that go away.

I've got a slight rattle coming from the passenger side interior by the b pillar; I think it might be the seatbelt hitting plastic. Turning my radio up makes that go away.

Check the seat belt retainer strap's snap. Mine was rattling. I rolled up a little piece of paper towel and stuck it in there & snapped it again, no more rattle. :)

Maybe, no, and every car ever made has squeaks and rattles. Depends on how sensitive you are to them and how loud you listen to your radio.

An occasional squeak or rattle going over especially uneven surfaces I fully expect some type of noise, I'm just worried about a chronic squeak/rattle due to poor interior build quality.

So from my research, it's safe to say the "crickets" are a "feature" of the fuel pump and an owner just has to live with it?

On a perfectly smooth and flat road it should be silent (aside from tire and wind noise). With any sort of road variance and roughness you'll hear things. Just part of the sacrifice, you should be able to get a good sense for the road noise based on a test drive, over the miles assume you're going to get a handful of new snaps, crackles, and pops.

Crickets vary, mine hasn't chirped in about 10 months and 15k miles, some people never hear them or they are so faint only the anal retentive notice. It's no detriment to the car at this point.

Test driving is the best advice for this car, what's unbearable to some is heaven to others.

"Poor interior build quality" is a perception thing. Luxury cars usually don't make as much noise because there is a lot of added weight in sound insulation that hides noises you might otherwise hear. This car has very little added weight in that department. It will be noisy. But nothing that a competent technician (or owner) shouldn't be able to fix with a bit of wool felt or EPT foam. :)

The latest fuel pump update has not fixed all of the crickets, though may have fixed some. AFAIK, Subaru is still working on it.

I got my Monogram in late February and it's had absolutely no issues at all. :happyanim:

As others have said, every car has its quirks, and there is no single answer to your question. I have a very early 2013 (First 86, serial number in the low 200's) and I've not had any issues.

Car is quirky for sure. I have an early 2013 build. Only issue I've had has been the crickets. They come and go, and not going to lie, I don't really hear them anymore. My wife is usually the one who notices when they come back.

Only issue that I complain about with mine is the idiotically designed transmission and the saggy bumper

The Frozen North

For the transmission are you talking about the stiff second gear when cold or something else?

Bought my '14 BRZ on the last day of February. I occasionally get the idle dip, and I've heard the crickets I think twice. The crickets aren't nearly as loud/annoying as the chatter from the aftermarket clutch in my last car. I'm not really worried about either issue.

Overall, this car has been everything I expected - and so much more. Don't be shy; come join the fun!
