The right time to buy a BRZ
Hi guys,
As you can probably already tell, I'm new to the forum, but i've been following it for a while. I just wanted to ask a general question that I may not have seen yet. If it's been asked before, let me know. I'm planning to purchase the Series.Blue BRZ coming out in July, but i'm just confused on how to go about buying it. Do I go visit the dealer or call the dealer to put down a deposit if i'm ready as soon as possible? Or do I just wait till July to go there and place it on the spot? Help would be appreciated! Can't wait to be a part of this great community soon! |
the series.Blue is a limited release so you'd be best to put down now an order and deposit at your nearby dealer (with great reviews). I used dealerrater.com when searching for the dealer i wanted to buy from.
|
Awesome, thanks for that. I see some dealers that are near my area are some of the best so i'll be going to those.
Though, how much would be a "serious" deposit if i'm looking to put one down? I definitely do not want to miss this series. |
just ask the dealer what is the minimum amount you'd need to deposit to order the series.Blue. Usually its 500 or 1000 refundable deposit.
I would caution you that dealers will be likely to put a markup on it. |
When I was at the dealer last year, the deposit for a 2014 BRZ was around $1000.
That markup shouldn't be too much though from the MSRP though right? It's already at a reasonably high price, I wouldn't imagine any significant markup... |
Are the features of the Blue really worth 3 grand over the Limited? You can easily get a Limited for invoice or lower. Anyway, I would email every single dealer within 50 miles (separate emails for each) saying what car you want, that you're willing to buy right away, like that day or that weekend, and that you are price-focused. Ask for a price quote with everything: taxes, fees, options, etc. You just want a total number. If you see an offer you love, jump on it. You'll quickly learn what dealers are price focused and which ones aren't. Then you can buy right away or wait until the 4th of July sales or end-of-June incentives. We saved 500 on a Forester by buying at the end of the month, getting it for below invoice when it was a brand new and hot-selling model.
|
FWIW...
You can get a 2014 BRZ Limited for BELOW invoice right now. So your choice is between the limited edition which will probably have a mark up ABOVE MSRP, or a '14 BRZ below invoice pricing. The approx 5k difference in price will buy you all the OEM STi pieces as well as some nice upgrades of your choosing. |

Contact @HeubergerMotors and done deal... |
The thing is for me, i'd rather have the STI parts already installed without me having to take off the OEM parts and then install them myself.
Yes, the experience might be better, but the convenience of having the parts already installed and driving off the lot with it is much more appealing to me. @JSimon: Thanks for that. I think I might email all the dealerships to get an idea, on the phone is such a hassle. Though, is there something that I should be looking for in terms of when I email them? I'm looking to email 3-4 dealers today. |
So your ONLY reason for paying ~3k more and waiting is to have the parts installed? You know that the dealer can install all those aero parts while you wait during your first oil change? It's all bolt-on. I'll drive to NY and install all the parts for you for half the price difference! =P
Well, to each their own. I can understand paying for factor installed navi/push start/factory HIDs, different paint colors, engine differences... but I just think it's a lot to pay for just simple exterior cosmetic differences. Maybe it's because I'm not that big a fan of the blue interior pieces though. I'm too old to rice. |
The right time to purchase a BRZ is probably this time next year :P

I mean it's more really of having that "feeling" that you got a limited edition piece. Same thing with why some people customize their car, is to be different than the rest. And why also some people prefer to have their car stock. For me, having one of 1000 of the limited series is something that's appealing to me, and like you said, to each their own. I do understand where you are coming from though. (Although, isn't the Series.Blue just a Limited (rear spoiler/navi) with the STI parts?) |

Yup, the limited is just plastic and some blue interior pieces. The big money you're spending is on the blue interior thread.
I understand the exclusivity part though. It just sucks that it's all cosmetic. =( Sent from my D6503 using Tapatalk |

I just hope that I don't miss out on this trim though! |

If he would been available at the time I bought mine, I would have no questions asked gone with him and saved around 2K on the purchase.. |
Hmm. I'm not sure how dealer to dealer destination charges are handled. But if he can save you enough money to make it worth while.

Thanks for the suggestion! Otherwise, anyone else care to advise me how to go about this? I can use all the help I can get! |

Look at the trader rating. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/itrader.php?u=41641 |
Call around first, you may find the same deal locally. Ymmv.

I just contacted two of the highly-rated Subaru dealers around my area according to dealerrating.com.
I also just contacted Clint to see what he says about what he can do for me. Once I get emails from all three, I can finally weigh my options and hopefully pick the best one for me. I will def keep you guys updated since you've all been helping me a lot, which I appreciate. Hopefully, one of those three dealers comes through with a price and offer I can't refuse! Also, I understand the doubts concerning buying a car out of state and especially one that is so far, but so far, amongst all that i've read, so far so good. |

I'm hoping Clint didn't see it as a spam email. |
Email takes forever. Just pick up the phone and call. You'll be done with it all in 5min.

Figured i'd email since I currently don't have the time for the phone atm.

I emailed 10-15 dealers. About 10 responded. I just said what car I was looking for in what color with what options and that I was seriously going to buy ASAP. I ended up calling a dealer with a higher price, where a friend had just bought an Outback, asking if they would beat the best offer I had gotten, or at least match it. They said they could not match the price and that I should jump on it.
I do not think of these special editions as being special at all. I watched all those RS model Scions come out over the years and just snorted in disgust. They're for suckers. Nothing but a few badges and some tiny bits. Not worth it at all. I do miss keyless entry and ignition, but it's not worth thousands to me, not even close. |
I emailed three, and two got back to me. Both my local dealers.
Both dealers said that they have no information regarding the price or any information that they can give me or any suggestions on how to go about the process until they get more info. How they don't know the price is beyond me. It's posted right on Subaru's website. One dealer did say that they were going to take pre-orders in July, but again no price point or suggestions other than, that both will keep me updated. Hopefully, Clint comes through and emails be back! I sent him a general email with a subject line of 2015 Subaru BRZ Series.Blue Let's hope for the best! |
They don't know price because their gm has yet to determine the amount of mark up they can/want to charge.

I've seen people buy from Clint out of state, that is not uncommon.
If I were to buy new, I'd definitely look at Clint. The dude is not only awesome, but he knows what he's doing to get you the best price possible. Even with shipping costs, I looked at the math and it was still cheaper than the markups at my local dealers. If you can, definitely try giving him a call. The process is easy, and it won't take long. There's a reason he's so popular, and his ratings are so damn high. Edit: WOAH WOAH WOAH Clint left Heuberger? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO |
Quote:
where did you read that Clint left Heuberger? I was going to buy my BRZ from Clint but the car had been in a hailstorm which Clint let me know right away on the day of the hailstorm. I felt i didnt want to buy it so i bought it elsewhere. But i cant deny that i always think about wanting to buy from Clint and making that roadtrip home. Because Clint answered all my Qs and gave me the best pricing bar none. |

This is so sad. What will I do now....seriously. |

I'm hoping that it's just some hoax (late april fools?) or a hacking. Would've loved to buy from him once I actually had the funds. :sigh: He's still on the dealer website, so maybe I was just wrong (Hopefully!) |
It looks like its for real. I really wish I had bought from him...
|
don't worry, he may have been great but you can still make the two dealers bid for your money because both will be wanting to make a sale. IMHO your best bet is to find the newest product advisor they have and go after him/her because they will be more desperate to make a sale than someone who has been there for awhile and know how it goes. Thats what i did when i got my FRS and i got an amazing deal. Just don't let them know they have the upper hand since you seem intent on the series blue version. Make them think that you'd be willing to get a limited version from the opposite dealer or even go completely away from subaru and get a FRS and then push them down as far as you can until you're happy. It may take a couple of weeks (for myself anyways) but in the end it may be worth it and you may get an awesome deal on the series.blue when they finally tell you what they plan on trying to sell it for lol.
|
I'll definitely have to see what their other salesperson will do in the wake of all this. I'm hoping they are of the same mold, or if not better, than Clint.
I'm really intent on the Series.Blue and i'm hoping for no mark-ups whatsoever, so let's hope for the best! I'll keep you guys updated for sure. |
