Both my tail lights have some condensation in them ,took the car over to cambridge Toyota a new set is on order

I think we should organize some kind of christening party for Thorlius.

Congrats on the light at the end of the tunnel.

engsr 10-28-2012 11:36 AM

Congrats Thorlius. The wait is worth it.

My passenger taillight has a small pool in it. I called my dealer and they apparently have the recall notice so I'll be getting it replaced soon. I wonder how much more will accumulate this week with Sandy coming ashore ...

Slartibartfast 11-11-2012 08:12 PM

bump

All is quiet in KW.

I put the car away this Friday. Winter beater time! Will make spring much more exciting.

I haven't actually seen any cars in almost a month now.

Saw the same white FR-S that I've seen around Waterloo a few times on Thursday or Friday morning at the Shell on Davenport/Northfield. Also saw a hot lava in Kitchener out at Ottawa/Homer Watson on Saturday afternoon.

Otherwise, I haven't had any news from Heffner yet about my car's whereabouts, so no news on my end.

Slartibartfast 11-12-2012 06:58 PM

Just an FYI, (I don't like using the forum for any kind of self promotion)

We have a Black Auto in stock, and both a black and a blue manual enroute (ETA Nov 21st) Both manuals were originally sold, but are now available.

BreezinBy 11-14-2012 06:47 PM

Got my show shoes on today! They're on 15 spoke silver aluminum wheels. Wasn't sure about them but I think they're growing on me. I'll consider it my winter look. lol. You'll know it's me if you see me, that's for sure! :)

Ziggyzag420 11-14-2012 09:56 PM

Remote starter was installed today, snow tires have replaced the all seasons bring on the winter

Demandred7 11-14-2012 10:08 PM

Snows will go on next Monday for me. I usually get it done by Protreadz on Fountain. I suppose if I actually owned a torque wrench, then I would likely do it myself. This is only my 2nd winter with winter tires. Thankfully my 09 Corolla XRS that I traded in has the exact same tire size as the FR-S.

What did you do for the starter and how much did it run you? I was looking into this one but it seems like most places only carry specific/older models.

Ziggyzag420 11-14-2012 10:54 PM

I had the viper 4203v installed on the frs just wanted a basic two way remote start,on my tundra I have the viper 5904 with the smartstart that is pretty cool but too pricey for a leased car.Demandred7 I had the winter wheels from my 2011 corolla that I used as well they fit no problem just had to get new lug nuts as the thread is different from the corolla to the frs

It probably looked a little silly, but, I just used the chrome lugs from the alloys on the steelies. I would presume that I can do the same with the FR-S OE lugs, but, I guess I will find out soon enough.

Seems my car is in Toronto and should be in town by Friday give or take a day. Then a couple days for licensing and paperwork. So pessimistically speaking, I should have it before the end of the month. Best case would be this Saturday by the sounds of it.

Confirmation (an exact date for taking delivery) will be Wednesday.

I AM READY.

As it turns out, Corolla steelies don't quite work for the FR-S. The steelies I had on the Corolla are apparently a hubcentric design and the hubs on the FR-S are larger than the Corolla. :(

They are ordering specific ones that should come in tomorrow and I'll have to put the old ones up for sale. I also ordered lugs for the rims too. There's a quick $300, but, it isn't as though I have a choice. :(:sigh:

ouch that sucks but im sure if you put them up on t-bay the old steelies will sell

Thorlius I am so excited for you! Can't believe how much I love my car. Hubby must be getting sick of hearing me go on about it. LOL

I thought the Corolla had a different bolt pattern than the Subaru standard pattern.

Edit: There are probably 10 different Corolla bolt patterns depending on generation or trim so I guess I wouldn't really know. I got 16" Impreza steelies and all my research says they should be fine.

Everything looked right. 5 x 100 pattern, 205/50R-16 (I minus sized from the 215/45-17 (I had a 2009 XRS)), but, I was watching him try and put one on and it is quite close to fitting, but, not close enough. The other option was to grind out enough material on the steelie to fit, but, I did not feel comfortable with that option.

If everything goes according to plan, they should get everything in tomorrow and I will get them installed in the afternoon. As long as they are installed by next week, the Weather Network is predicting winter weather.

Not to be an :attention_whore: ,but, it looks like tomorrow now for the winter tires.

Oh well, I guess I can have one more day of fun on non-squishy tires. Once the temperature drops and flakes start to fall, then I will appreciate them. Until then, they are a necessary evil. Hoping I don't regret making it my daily driver.

No party, but I'm game for a meetup if we do any now. Probably too cold to stand around outside at night chatting at this time of year though.

At least you got to try your summers. I will be getting my winters installed by my dealer before I take possession. :iono:

I guess I sounded pretty selfish, my bad, just think, it'll only get better once spring rolls around. Then it is time for some serious fun. :burnrubber:

Putting mine away on Thursday I think. Wasn't sure if I would winter drive it or not, but I'll save her from the salt this year at least.

BreezinBy 11-20-2012 07:36 PM

Something you all may know (I didn't)... but when you get your snows on and if you don't install the TPMS on them the light on the dash comes on and off somewhat randomly. No biggie, I was just caught off guard. lol Any unexpected lights throw me a tad. ;)

sal 11-21-2012 12:22 AM

Got my lights replaced by Heffner Toyota today. First time bringing her out in a month and MAN do I miss her!

My Corolla did something similar. It would periodically try to pick up the signal from the TPMS and then when it would inevitably fail, the light would come back on. The funny thing is that because I stored my winter tires in my garage, it would sometimes sense them and be fine until sometime later after leaving the house.

I'm wondering about leave the summers (with the TPMS sensors) in the trunk. Extra rear end weight like most pickup truck drivers do with sandbags/snow/etc in the winter, and your sensors should stay in range. Then maybe the light would stay off as well.

:iono:

It might work.

:iono:

Do you plan to use your trunk or back seats? Space is already pretty limited back there. I am pretty sure you would need all 4 tires to trick the system. Softener salt bags might be a more compact solution for adding weight.

IMHO, ignore the light, check your tire pressure regularly. You will probably find that you will use VSC Sport often enough that the TPMS light will be just one more light added to the mix.

df.dima 11-21-2012 02:41 PM

Regarding TPMS, there have been multiple threads where people confirm that this kind of system requires the wheel to be spinning to activate sensors to read. Just go through a few threads in wheel section and you'll see. It just happens to not activate the light consistently when you don't have sensors in your driving wheels. That's what I got based on my reading.

Yeah, it is a light that I was going to personally ignore so I didn't :search:

Good to know. Thanks for digging into it. :thanks:

engsr 11-21-2012 03:00 PM

Here's one thread about it - http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showt...light=tpms+vsc. I was looking to see if the light would cause any functionality issues (I thought I read that you couldn't turn off TRAC/VSC or something weird like that) but that doesn't seem to be the case. I haven't really looked into this because the BRZ doesn't have the TPMS and I regularly check my car over anyway.

I searched and skimmed the (what seems like) hundreds of topics on here. It seemed like people were just bitching at each other for not providing proof either way. Nobody seemed to understand what was happening for them and the whole thing just seems really shoddy - ie., not updating until two weeks later. I'll probably just try it and see what happens.

Another reason why I wish I'd just gotten a BRZ... Keyless entry, HID's, dual zone climate, and no TPMS nanny to deal with.

Wow, I thought TPMS was required by law on all new vehicles, but that is only in the US.

So... anyone take their FR-S out in the snow today? How was it?
