What's your favorite twisty road?
 

I've been day dreaming about taking my new BRZ on twisty roads. Soon(June 2nd :eyebulge:)...
I moved out here a few years back, and know there are some great roads around here I haven't discovered yet.
I found this website and am getting some ideas.

So what's your favorite road?

I used to drive chuckanut all the time when i lived in bellingham. If you went up there the road up to baker is good as well. Also north cascade highway. All good roads.

Personally though I think Oregon has some of the best windy roads I've driven. They are everywhere here it seems.

Holy crap! I have been looking for a website that lists all good roads in the NW. That website has all of them. Took me literally hours doing google searches a few weeks ago and now you just summarized everything.

I used to live in Bellingham too and heard all the rave about Chaukanut Drive. Never went coz I had a measly fwd '93 Honda Predule. But now that the BRZ cometh...well...:thumbsup:

Used to live in the Vancouver burbs and spent a lot of time between the border and Bellingham. Any route around Mt Baker is good.

If you want a cracking book to have tucked under the seat for when the mood strikes I cannot recommend enough the Destination Highways series. I have the BC one and now that I am in Cali, will get that one too. Their website is good as well:

Yeah I used to drive it once a week at least. Only problem is that it gets very busy during the day with sightseeing motorists.

I'm definitely need to take a drive up to Mt. Baker. Thinking highway 9 to 542. That'll go a long ways towards breaking her in.
I've wanted some Cuban Rum for awhile now. Maybe a rum run for the border is in order.

The only roads I have driven are the Old Spiral Highway in Lewiston, ID and McKenzie View Rd. here in Eugene, OR, and they are both great

So I've been driving a lot around trying to break in the car. The first country road I have drove wasBurn Rd. I have friend the lives down there so was familiar with it.
Today I drove up Highway 9 from Marysville to Mosquito Lake road, then up Mount Baker Highway. That was a really good drive.
When I arrived at the ski lift at Mount Baker there was a VW club gathered in the road. Everyone stopped what they were doing to check out my 86. I got a lot of good comments about it. There were a lot of photos taken. To bad I forget to bring my camera, and my phone was acting up, so I wasn't able to get many photos.
Mosquito Lake road is pretty awesome. I was trying to keep up with a local on a dirt bike. Wow this BRZ can handle. I can't wait until I change the oil at 1k miles and let her rip to red line.

Fox Hollow, Briggs Hill, and Hamm Roads are all FANTASTIC. Traffic is generally really low, just occasional bike traffic and a few locals. You can make an easy loop, plus the scenery is beautiful. These roads plus a few out by Fall Creek are nice. That's all I've found in the Eugene area, but the highway to Florence ain't bad either.

For those in Portland... Various roads in the west hills, and if you're willing to make the trek to Wilsonville you can find great roads west or east of the town, especially west.

I have never driven on Fox Hollow, but I have cycled there and it seems good. I may have to check out those other ones. Thanks :thumbup:

One of my favorites not too far from you, Smokinbuffalo, is to get off I-5 at exit 210 and head west on 236th towards Pioneer Hwy. Take a right and there's about 6 miles of Pioneer Hwy that are pretty nice for a short drive.

PCH north of San Francisco, I'm sure there are better but it's the best I've ever had the privilege of driving.
