Hilarious.. But the mustang still won..
The wheelbase is too short on that smart car for any power/speed.
One twitch from the driver and u lose control at speed.. Fun to watch.. But I wouldn't want to own one..

If the Smart hadn't done a wheel stand and practically stopped, I think he'd have killed the Mustang.

lmao there is this one huge pot hole on the bridge (whitestone for those in NY) on my way to work in Queens. I saw a smart car hit it and it looked like he almost flipped it the way the car bounced and swerved.

I hit that hole once when I didn't know about it and although it sounded god awful like I bent a wheel, I kept going straight and there was no damage.

Off topic, I don't understand how a pot hole like that can exist for going on 2 years now and they don't fix it. LMFAO

How isn't it fixed yet? The center lane of the Whitestone has been closed for like 4 years for "repairs". They keep shifting the Bronx-bound traffic pattern around as they slowly move across the bridge. I'm going to be cashing in my 401k before they reach the Queens-bound side. My favorite is that nice dip in the center/left lane on the ramp to the Whitestone Expressway. Driving in that whole area is a nightmare. Every time I have to go down to Rockaway I have to remember to dial my shocks all the way soft.

lmfao my favorite is seeing all the slammed guys going to the far right/shoulder to get past that dip without smashing their cars. Personally I stay in the second to left lane. then I drive :burnrubber: from there to the van wyck because there is no shoulder and you have visibility to see any cops for like 2 or 3 miles.

Did folks not watch the whole video? There's 2 runs. In the first run the wheel stand almost brings him to a complete stop before he gets going again and still runs a 13.9.

On the second run (against another Mustang) the Smart car did a 12.536 with a better launch. The Mustang in the first run sure as hell isn't going to run 12.5's.

edit: I don't know why I quoted Mikem53 to say that...

That's pretty funny. That having been said, I got a chance just a couple days ago to drive a Mustang GT w/Track Pack pretty hard, and I am seriously impressed with what they've managed to do, given the chassis and suspension setup. It actually handled surprisingly well, and it's great at putting power down out of a corner. Easy to catch the back end when it starts to step out too (and the traction control isn't overly invasive even though I left it on the whole time). I'll be very curious to drive one of the '15s once they are available. If they're significantly better than the '14s, it'll be a hard car to beat for the money.

So, I guess you are going to run out and buy a Smart car?

reni 05-29-2014 11:53 PM

Um yeah... I would still rather have a Mustang.

robwbright 05-29-2014 11:55 PM

I'm not a Mustang hater... I'm looking forward to the '15s as well... but every 5th car around here is a Mustang. I just thought it was funny to see a Smart car take one.

Agreed. Cool Smart Car though. Would make for a good chuckle every time it lines up.

@Title - An FRS/BRZ would have won right :o?

gramicci101 05-30-2014 12:51 AM

In all seriousness, the smart car driver had to have known it would do that, and he almost rolled it over backwards. Why did he not have a wheelie bar on it?
