Dealer talk

I talked to a Subie Dealer General Manager today. He provided some interesting details! He indicated a number of dealerships were getting their full allotment of BRZ cars all at once. No waiting! He indicated that he expects his full allotment and first unit in June/July and suspects he will get all three cars at once. He said he plans on keeping one on the showroom floor until the next order shows up for eye candy purposes.

He's getting 3 cars and he's going to keep one on the showroom floor?

Sounds crazy and if someone goes in with money in hand they will get that car. What is he doing? Taking preorders on a car that he has his full allotment for.

In my region after all allotted cars are sold the dealership will receive new allocations.

Note that the northeast is different than the rest of the US. Northeast isnt part of SOA, so their ordering and allocations are different than the rest of the country's. SOA ordered and allocated 6,000 units across all it's dealers for the full '13 model year. If they all sell/pre-sell, there won't be any more till the '14 model year. Expect shipments of 500 units/month from Japan for the next 12 months - not 6,000 all in the first month. The factory is back ordered as it is for the JDM.

So is their a possibility for dealers in the west like in Cali to get an allottment of 7-10 all at once?

Ngabdala,
No, the third car is not sold per the GM. I believe they just ordered a "lot queen" for the dealership thinking it would be better to have something sitting on the lot than a slot for a custom order. Bird in hand and all...(Understand though, he didn't say this. It is my opinion.) He also didn't say that they would get all the allotment at once. Just that other dealerships seem to be setting a precedence of receiving outstanding orders at one time. Lastly, i was told that there will be no more 2013 cars following this batch for USA. The next batch will be 2014's(in the US) other production will fulfill ROW.

No. California is under SOA, which is delivering cars on a schedule spread out as even as to be expected over the allotment period. If the dealer is allocated 10 cars, expect 1-2 cars per month. This is what dealers were told during when the order system opened up. I guess it's possible for things to change, but I wouldn't expect anything different.

Interesting. Since we're in calendar year 2012, any 2014 models wouldn't come out until 2013. And I see no reason why they would start the 2014 model year early unless they had a redesign. The 2002 Subaru WRX had something like a 15-16 month run. It's possible the BRZ could do the same. The "next year" models usually come to market around June-September.
